dd2's best friend's little brother has suspected mumps - he's had mmr so is this likely? Is it not as bad if you've had mmr? and is it contagious?

yours in ignorance Wink, Miaou

you can still get the illness but it wont be as severe. And yes, it will be contagious. Although, not sure at what stage mumps is contagious IYSWIM. Hope that helps!

hello! the wee girl will be infectious untill the swelling susbsides and the ain goes. Your dd should be immune to it, though I would avoid fro a while. If she does pick it up her body will allready recognise it from the vaccine and know exactly how to treat it. Though really she should be immune. (To be completely safe for your weest one I would have your dd avoid untill her friend is better! ds will have some degree of immunity from your milk though)

hope this helps.

Thanks poppies and chapsmum - didn't really make it clear, it's ds I'm obviously most worried about! That's great about the milk thing though.

This little boy goes to the nursery attached to the school, and atm he has swellings in his neck but hasn't seen a GP as yet. He and my ds have never met, but there is a "connection" through his big brother who is dd2's best friend (and they often cuddle each other too), so it's always a possibility. Dd2 has had her mmr though.

In theory if she's immune she cannot pass it on,She cannot incubate a disease she is immune to. It would only be if she were to contract it that she could potenetially pass it on.

Miaou · 12/03/2006 12:45

That's what I thought - thanks chapsmum Smile

My ds2 caught mumps (or a disease so similar to it the GP could not tell the difference) when he was 4 having had MMR at the usual time. It was very mild though.

Think I may have still been drunk when I posted that first one!

It is unlikely that the wee boy will actually have mumps. It is more than just swelling, they are usually very sore with it and the lumps tend to be in the groin or in the neck as well. My nephew had something similar when I had the chap I panicked, he was fine except for lumps that turned out to be in the gp's words, lumps!

Secondly it would be unlikely if not down right unluck for him to pass it on to his vaccinated sister to give to her vaccinated friend to spread it to your ds! IYSWIM. An immune child cannot incubate it so ds will prob be fine! Extra b milk for that boy tonight!

no problem, sorry for such a confusing first post, snow has frozen my typing fingers!
