My Ds2 was given an antibiotic medicine called
ERYTHROMYCIN on Friday, for Tonsillitis and conjunctivitis. I spent friday evening and yesterday scraping him off the ceiling. The way he was behaving was similar to how he is with certain colourants, he doesn't have the obvious ones smarties, skittles etc. he also goes a bit wild with robinsons squash, wotsits and certain other things.Has anyone esles children had this sort of reaction to anti biotics.
He has had similar stuff Amoxycillin before and not had a reaction, i just find it a bit hard to believe that its the medicine

How old is your DS2? Was he given the antib as a tablet, or as a liquid? I think the liquids are often full of colourants and other disgustingness, so it's probably the colorants etc, not the antibiotic per se.

(I'm allergic to a class of antibiotics, but I don't get hyper, I just get a rash.)

He's 6, and was given liquid form. I have just checked the bottle and it has Orange flavouring which makes him go wild! Why do they manufacture these things for kids? As i said he has had the Amoxycillin medince before and been fine with it, but the Doctor said that he could have this stuff as its good for infections like the ones he has. Well I'm not giving him any more of it.

Drives me up the wall- ds1 is the same on any kids stuff (can just about tolerate sugar filled calpol). Others they out bloody saccharine in etc.

Oh, but the annoying thing with antibs is, you really should finish the course.

I'd talk to your GP's practice's out of hours service, and see if you can get any sort of alternative formulation today. Would he cope with pills? Or could you mush up pills?

If you stop the drugs today, get a new scrip tomorrow, and start them up again tomorrow, you're asking for an antibiotic allergy - I would know, that's how I got one.

He can't have Calpol either, he has to have Boots own make, or Medised, or Calprofen, (the junior ibuprofen) which is strange as it's made by the Calpol people. Junior Nurofen sends him high as well, as does some of the over the counter cought medicines, which i don't buy that much any way
I will need to go and see the docotr tomorrow and get a new prescription.
As i said above though, why do they put so much colourants and addivitves in kids medicine?

Make sure you get a different antib tomorrow then, obviously.

Your out-of-hours service might be able to call a new prescription into a pharmacy, if any near you is open today ...
