It is annoying me now!!

I didn't even know my dd had had an eye test done at school, and I got a letter from the development centre saying "your Daughter has had an eye test at school which wasn't satisfactory" we had to go go for an appointment and she told us that they had decided to bring the age down that the children have an sight test done. My DD is the youngest in her class (5 hrs later and she wouldn't be starting school till this year!) and I wondered if this had any bearing on her eye test

anyway, eyes were fine!!!

Then the other day I got a letter "your child has had a hearing test at school and the results were not satisfactory"

aggggh!!!! another appointment

Her twin sister has SN so we have enough appointments with her

I was wondering if they had brought the age down when they have hearing tests also

Is beginning to annoy me now, What's next?!!!!

I'm sure that when ds1 had his sight and hearing tested at school in Reception the parents had to sign a consent form first.

Ds1 was 4yrs 5mths old at the time, if that's any help? No problems were found though.

anniebear · 11/03/2006 21:58

we did sign a form ages ago that said she would have one at some time in the year, I just didn't know that she had...

you know what they are like though, they "never do anything at school....can't remember" , "never play with anyone" etc!!!

I just thought it was strange she has been referred for both in the last few months. I just wondered if she found the tests a bit hard, also sometime she doesn't concentrate very well.

She was watching tele yesterday and I am behind the door making silly whispering noises to check her hearing Grin Grin

I have no worries really though

My ds (Not 5 until August) has also just had sight/hearing tests done and he's in reception. He already wears glasses as I took him for an eye test last year when he was 3 1/2 and a problem was picked up then.

They have to get things like squints inhand by the time they are 7 otherwise they are alot harder to treat, maybe this is the reason. OK so your and mine children are the young ones but if you had a September child who needed treatment you might be grateful that this has been picked up so they can treat it.

Hi, Annibear. Your girls really are almost exactly the same age as DS2 - 4 hours later and he wouldn't be in this school year. He was born just after 8.O0 pm.

We got a general letter last term that they would be having hearing tests, but that we would only receive a letter if they didn't 'pass'. We were also told that they would get a sticker saying something like "I was good at my hearing test". He's never had one of those, so I'm not sure whether they've been tested or not, or whether the sticker didn't materialise. Like you, direct questioning doesn't always get results... ("I do not want to tell you anything about that, so NO MORE QUESTIONS!")

Haven't heard about sight tests. It is a pain to have more appointments when she may well just not have been co-operating - they are very young. Glad her eyes are fine, though!

Sorry but LOL at the silly noises behind the door! :o

I imagine it's still pretty difficult for the school to test them at that age. Ds1's was done by the school nurse so I don't know how much expertise the testers have either.

Yes, ds has had all this done in reception. It's done by the school nurse because their care is transferred from HV to school nurse once they start reception.
