if there is a worry about skewed immune systems from vaccines - if you are unimmunised, do you/your children have any hayfever/allergies/asthma etc? just curious to hear.

My parents didn't have any vaccinations and didn't have any allergies or the like, but I wouldn't personally like to infer that there was a connection.

ElaineBenes · 17/08/2012 17:34

Opposite with us. My kids have had more vaccinations than are commonly given in the UK (Hep B, Hep A, chickenpox, flu) and no hayfever, allergies or asthma.

I wouldn't use my example to infer anything either. That's the trouble with anecdotes.

If you're really interested though you'll want to know what the scientific evidence says:

no association with asthma

no association with allergies

I have bad hayfever and plenty of other allergies, was given standard vaccines available in 70's as was my brother who is also highly allergic and asthmatic. It's hereditry as my mother also suffers.

DH gets really bad hayfever throughout the season.

DS1 (7) standard vaccines but delayed start - first ones given late 4 months or so and spread out - no allergies to date.

DS2 (2) only 1 set of vaccines at about 5 months - no allergies to date.

However both also ebf until 6 months continuing to 2.5 yrs.

With the misery suffered in my family - I am taking all possible precautions so infer what you will!!

How many vaccines did your mum have?

bruffin · 18/08/2012 20:01

My dad was born in Cyprus in the 1930s, I doubt he had any vaccines yet he had lots of allergies hayfever, dermatitis plus diabetes and psoriasis.

CatherinaJTV · 19/08/2012 10:09

bruffin, he will have had smallpox vaccination.

My grandmother has horrible skin issues (mainly psoriasis) and while each generation after her had more vaccines, their skin has gotten better and better - I still needed specialised creams for "atypical eczema" into my 20ies, usually in the winter and have a couple of contact allergies. My daughter (who has had the most vaccines of all of us, including chicken pox) has nothing, my son had two incidents of "dry cracking skin" in 11 years... I am pretty sure this is all genetic and has nothing to do with vaccines.

bruffin · 19/08/2012 10:48

I agree that its genetic Catherina, we both come from very allergic families including my MIL born in 1927. My ds has a lot of allergies that are the same as DH and I, but my dd who has vaccinations as she has had the hpv, has never had a sign of any allergies or skin conditions at all.
There is evidence that the first born are more prone to allergies, so jaz example could be just down to that rather than less vaccines. Also ebf doesnt prevent allergies it just deters them until later life

bruffin · 19/08/2012 10:49

Also so would say some of my dad's problems are probably lack of vitamin d and smoking
