If you treated an anal fissure how long before it didn't feel like pooing glass? :(

So, a fissure started a couple of weeks ago. I've had the odd one before but not in this league. I had a third degree tear back in March but that all healed really well so unsure if it's related or not.

I saw an out of hours doctor as I was staying away from home at the time. She prescribed lactulose and proctosedyl (but I was only allowed to use that for 7 days). I have also been eating a ton of fruit, veg, prunes and soggy linseeds as well as taking magnesium and drinking enough water for Sir Steve Redgrave to stage a comeback in. Also exercising and sitting in baths (when 2 small DCs permit) and no alcohol Sad. I've made progress in that it doesn't bleed now (it was...TMI...dripping into the toilet bowl) but it still hurts like bejeezuz when i have a BM. On the plus side, the baby weight is dropping off me, although I think I would've preferred a gentler weight loss programme Grin

I know I'm probably being impatient but I am so miserable about having to psyche myself up every time I need the toilet. How long do these flippin things take to heal? Any other tips?

My GP gave me anoheal. If you're back at home now it might be worth going to your own GP. It took about a month but not painful any more, but still itchy.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks BlueChampagne, I think I will try and get an appointment tomorrow. Right, better go and scoff my oh-so-high-fibre supper...

Yes you want Anoheal (diltiazem cream) It took about 5-6 weeks to get better after using that. Hope you get better soon. You have my sympathies.

Scheriproct or proctosedyl suppositories straight out the fridge - ahh!

About two weeks on a high fibre diet (after four months of lactulose) and using sudocreme liberally.

Do you poo with your feet on a stool and doing panting breaths, and do you use wet wipes or water instead of toilet roll?

hairytale - I pant and breathe out my poos as if I am in labour! If only I could have gas and air every morning though. Do you mean use sudocreme all the time? I hate lactulose - makes my tummy really windy and everthing too runny but I'm a bit terrified to stop now. I've heard some people use Fybogel type ones instead.

belgian - yes, I think it was breastfeeding and not drinking enough water that got me into this predicament so now I am really gulping it back.

Thanks everyone.

Yes gas and air would have helped me when it was bad. I used to sob when I pood :(

Yes I put sudocreme on my bottom every time I went to the loo for a week and that, coupled with a lot of fibre, really helped to heal.

Oh and I substituted squash for diluted pure orange juice which seemed to help too.
