Hi,

I've been reading threads on this board for ages but never really had a need to post until now. Hopefully a kind soul or two will come and put my mind at rest!

Went to the docs today for a new pill prescription and confessed to some bleeding between periods (started no longer than 6 six weeks ago). I've been having no pain or nothing else unusual.

Ended up being examined and was told I have ulcers on my cervix so I'm being referred to the hospital for a colposcopy (appointment booked for next Wednesday). Was very helpfully given a leaflet on cancer and sent out of the door. So, now I'm at home in a flap worried about the possible outcome of the hospital appointment.

Anyone have anything similar or know anything about cervical ulcers that they can share? I'm afraid I'm focusing too much on the 'C' word and scaring myself unecessarily :(

Not really heard of a cervical ulcer before but I guess it could be possible.
There's a (benign) condition called an erosion which can cause bleeding.
It's easy for me to say try not to worry; they're looking after you and making sure you get looked at to find out what the problem is.
Could I suggest you have a look at Jo's trust website which is for women who are having investigation for cervical abnormalities. NB its also for women with cervical cancer so there are discussions about that - they do understand the worry and concern though.

Sorry forgot to mention the BSSCP website which has info about abnormal results and what colposcopy is like.
Given what the GP called it I can't really help any further - the waiting and not knowing what if anything is wrong is very hard. My gynaecologist thought I had a cervical tumour a few years ago (luckily it turned out to be a polyp) and the waiting for the histology results was a long two weeks. Working in a screening lab didn't help with the worrying either.

If you've got any questions about colposcopy and what the investigations e.g. Biopsies are like then I can answer that.
Take care.

To be honest, my Googling has brought up Erosion and I think they might be the same thing. I'm thinking the doctor might have been saying they looked like ulcers to explain to me what she was seeing.

I've come to the conclusion it is the bleeding that has sent me to the hospital rather than the 'ulcers'. Had I just presented with them and no bleeding I don't think I would have been sent. So I'm staying really positive at the moment. My last smear came back clear so I'm taking that as a good sign.

I have found Jo's Trust and started a similar thread, so thank you! And thank you for taking the time to post!

The guidelines do include referral for bleeding so it may be that your GP is being cautious by giving you leaflets that include cancer.
Erosion is also called an ectropion as well.
I know when I had the cyst that I had to know everything and worked from the worse possible outcome backwards (call it optimistic pessimism!) which was hard for my DH (ostrich type).
If they suggest treatment at the appointment then you probably should get a lift or cab home. Take a pad in case of spotting and take it easy if poss for a day or two.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Smile

Just realised that looked a bit odd written down. Quite a few years ago they thought I had cervical cancer and then a few years later a cyst.

I think I've looked at worst case to best case and everything in between lol.

I'm on the 'everything will be fine' train at the moment, a couple of hours ago I was in floods of tears lol. OH keeps looking at me warily to see what kind of mood I'm in! But I did get him to cook tea :)

Thanks for taking the time to comment, just needed a bit of reassurance. Knowing that the erosion (if that's what I've got) is benign is comforting!
