sudden IBS attack with light headedness and nausea - Fodmap success with diet?

My IBS has been under control for a good while but do get anal fissures and have piles (to my shock!), A few days ago I woke up to terrible IBS gripping pains, bloated, terrible headache and light headedness.

I cant pin point what activated it at all. But reading many forums lightheadedness is a symptom and I have been having quite a lot of it. With no alcohol diet, less food - good diet my IBS has been well under control.

I am about 2 stone overweight (can never understand reason why) and wonder if anyone has had sucess with Fodmap diet. Basically eliminating carbs, sugars from diet. My concern is that I do have a good wholewheat diet now but it doesnt seem to affect me so nor do I have a problem with diarrhea or constipation (I do have problems passing large stools though) and reading these forums many people are suffering everyday while I'm not.

Doing a diet like this is a major change and wonder if it would benefit me. In general appart from this aliment my health is excellent.

Has anyone with intermittant IBS had success with anything?

I know about the FODMAP diet as I have a relative doing it at the moment.

It does have a 75% success rate.

You cannot just do it yourself- you need supervision and the food booklet and charts from a dietitian trained in Fodmap.

You don't simply omit carbs and sugars- there is a huge list of veggies on the "no no" list as well as a dairy, some pulses, and whole host of food additives, spices and herbs.

Your GP may be able to suggest who you see who is qualified.

I have followed this diet, and although it was a pain it did work for me. I plan to go back on it soon.

In the meantime I restrict my fibre content as I am a 'go' person. I get extreme pain from wholemeal bread and salad and veggies.

so i have white bread, and avoid apples and oranges etc, bannanas are ok.
cabbage type veg is pure hell, so eat brocolli .

booze and vinegar and chocolate and caffine are eaten with as much moderation as i can stand.....

food that every one can safelyeat is a HUGE issue in our home.
