What to do for cracked heels?

MrsDoolittle · 09/03/2006 14:44

My feet have been neglected during the latter stages of my pregnancy and now I have these horrible cracks on my heels.
Now I have made them sore by picking at them in the bath. Anyone got any great solutions for dealing with this?

And why does dh have such beautiful soft baby feet and I have cracks??

there are some very good creams in the chemist, scholl etc - especially for cracked heels.Quite pricey but they have improved mine no end! also, one of those foot pumice thingies will help.

type horned hoof into search.

you will find many many wise words on this subject

:)

cod · 09/03/2006 14:46

hahahahhaha!" you arentin the horned hoofers?

satine · 09/03/2006 14:48

Flexitol (you can get it in Boots)is great if you are disciplined and put it on regularly! You could also try a pedicure (I know how hard that is to arrange when you've got babies, though!) as they are good at removing all the dead skin!

See a chiropodist to get the worst of it off, then cream your feet every night. Putting cream on and then sleeping in socks helps as well.

Scholl do good peds

And the one here is opposite a toy shop, always good for bribes I find.

MrsDoolittle · 09/03/2006 14:56

Chiropodist isn't possible at the moment with two small ones but I'll join in the horned hoofed club if I can please cod?
Flexitol? So this is what I should spend my gift vouchers on?
How much?

FLEXITOL FLEXITOL FLEXITOL! My heels had such deep cracks I couldn't walk properly. Most chiropodists do home visits (think of all the elderly and disabled who can't even reach their feet). They charge about £20 - £25. Get one to come over to get the worst off and then Flexitol every night and morning. Boots sell it for £4.99, but they are sometimes on 3 for 2 - in which case stock up!

Do you have some lansinoh? And a big plaster-type dressing? Sorted out dh's cracked heels like this.
(Lansinoh is brilliant for all sorts)

motherinferior · 09/03/2006 18:58

Also get one of those paddle heel thingies, the sort you sandpaper off the rough skin with. Do that first. Then whatever it takes - flexitol, heavy duty hand cream, etc - to keep it going.

expatinscotland · 09/03/2006 18:59

Pruni
After my nipple healed, I used some Lanisoh on my cuticles and it worked a dream!

Also good for chapped lips.

utterlyconfused · 09/03/2006 19:00

Another vote for Flexitol.

Pruni · 09/03/2006 23:25

lol expat yes it is in my bag for use as lip balm - i use it to frighten young women with: "ooh, nipple cream, you'll need it one day" that sort of thing. It lasts forever too.
I have used it on dry skin patches - overnight success, unlike eg aqueous cream

cod · 09/03/2006 23:25

er you haev to be a nhorned hoofer to use that

turniphead · 09/03/2006 23:30

warp your feet in turnip peel - works wonders
