It bugs me something awful . Thin to the point of beginning to look ill .

Lucy from eastenders is top of the list ...give the girl a pie or something .

Nikki graham ...give her a couple of pies

Fangolina Jolie ...give her a couple of pies , a large side of fries and a huge chocolate cake .

Victoria beckham .... Just deep fry something and make her eat FFs !

Duchess Katie ....how on earth does she expect to pop out a sprog or too , being that thin her ovaries are bound to have stopped working ? Give the girl a sandwich .

Actually Hmm I think more people have told the OP the thread is horrible than have contributed to her original thread "idea".

And yes yellowraincoat it is always judging womens' bodies, men seem to get away with being bigger/skinny/whatever, they are just as they are, it's just us women who have to be just right.

droves · 06/08/2012 21:20

Ok I admit , I'm angry and frightened and attacking the people my ds is idolising.

He is only 12 .

He puts his meals in the bin after a few bites ( but pretends he's eaten )
He is exercising for hours .
He has lost weight very quickly and his clothes hang off him .His solution to this is to wear layers of clothes to hide it . I saw him without his shirt on the other day and his ribs and spine are visible.
He has started to tell me he's had dinner at friends house , but when I check I find hes been lying .

Eating disorders can be really complicated illnesses and I agree with those who found the opening post offensive.

Many women are naturally smaller, but those who are ill will not benefit from being told to eat some pies!

I hope you can get some help from your son and develop a bit of empathy.

sub17 · 06/08/2012 21:22

xp, please do see your gp, maybe without him first to get some advice?

LissiesAWenlockLass · 06/08/2012 21:28

droves, thats understandable. its scary. he will be scared. but its far more complicated that "wanting to look a certain way" there are often much deeper things at play. an ED sufferer can be manipulative and great liars. they are masters of illusion and it can be frustrating.

please, contact B-eat and your GP, they can help you. and you are welcome to pm me.

droves · 06/08/2012 21:28

He won't go to the doctor .

I don't think I could go without him

I shouldn't have worded the original post that way . I appologise .

OP posts:
yellowraincoat · 06/08/2012 21:32

droves why can't you go without him? If he is in danger of being anorexic, you need some advice.

droves · 06/08/2012 21:35

I wouldn't know what to say . Boys don't get this .

OP posts:
panicnotanymore · 06/08/2012 21:36

droves it's not a case of he is in danger of being anorexic, he is anorexic. It isn't size that tells you that, it is the lying about eating, avoiding eating with you, and exercising.

Lots of people are naturally skinny, I am one of them. I have lost count of the number of people who think I am far to skinny to have periods. I'm currently pregnant, and owed a lot of apologies....

LissiesAWenlockLass · 06/08/2012 21:36

you can go without him, for advice. i was hospitalised as a slightly chubby 14yo, against my will. I weighed 3st. you need to help him, he is just as scared as you.

yellowraincoat · 06/08/2012 21:37

Boys do get it. You need to do this for him, don't be ashamed.

landofsoapandglory · 06/08/2012 21:39

droves if he won't go to the doctor, go without him. When DS1 was 12 he developed OCD, he came to one GP appointment but refused to come to the next. I was tearing my hair out, crying all the time and told him I wouldn't make him come, but I was going any way. I did and I poured my heart out to that doctor.

That was the turning point for us. DS1 finally realised that I was not going to play by his rules anymore. He realised that it took a lot for me to break his trust, if you like, so as I had done that he obviously had a problem. We got a referral to CAHMS and he recovered quite quickly.

I am sorry you are going through this, yes the wording of the thread title was a bit off, but I can totally understand why.

panicnotanymore · 06/08/2012 21:42

You'd take him to the doctor if he had a chest infection - it is no different. He is unwell.

Eating disorders are far easier to treat if the sufferer gets support before habits become entrenched.

20% of people with anorexia die. DON'T pretend it isn't happening, help him.

droves · 06/08/2012 21:45

Thanks for the link .

I've got a different doctor than ds .
Do I make an appointment with his or mine ?

OP posts:
landofsoapandglory · 06/08/2012 21:50

Make it with his, but tell them you are coming on your own.

LissiesAWenlockLass · 06/08/2012 21:51

I would call your doctor tbh, for advice in the first instance. are you at the same surgery?

I agree that you can turn this around before the habits become too entrenched. but its up to him as well. do you have RL support? once things are rolling you can get help from the EDT, dh calls mine when I struggle. its very hard on him too.

panicnotanymore · 06/08/2012 21:52

I'd personally make an appointment with his doctor, and take him along. If he is really difficult and refuses to go, go without him to discuss your concerns.

From your earlier post he definitely is anorexic, but it is early days, and very treatable.

SardineQueen · 06/08/2012 21:52

Oh droves I am so sorry about your son.

Please do go and see a doctor. You could call the surgery and ask which doc to talk to about this?

also here is the beat website that someone mentioned upthread.

Boys do get this - it is becoming much more common - and as with any other illness the thing to do is look for help as soon as you realise your child is ill.

Smile
SardineQueen · 06/08/2012 21:54

Oh sorry someone else did the link a bit earlier.

panicnotanymore · 06/08/2012 21:54

PS just wanted to say you are a fab mum for doing this for him. He'll fight you, and say he hates you, but long term he will love you and be so grateful to you (have been through this with a family member too)

Scarredbutnotbroken · 06/08/2012 21:55

I was 7st 11 when my v robust dd1 was conceived. What's your point?

SardineQueen · 06/08/2012 22:01

droves might it be worth contacting mnhq and asking them to change the title or something?

LissiesAWenlockLass · 06/08/2012 22:06

good idea, or maybe restart in MH.

GetOrfMoiRing · 06/08/2012 22:06

Droves I am really sorry about your son - I hope those links help and you are able to speak to someone. Your sense of panic is palpable.

Lissie you must have suffered so much Sad

GetOrfMoiRing · 06/08/2012 22:08

Good idea, otherwise the thread will just end up with lots of posts about kate Middleton.
