Mine is awful. Wondered if it was something in the air

I'm finding it slightly difficult to breathe at the mo. I describe it as like breathing treacle. I'm a very mild asthmatic and almost never take my inhaler (apart from before exercise!) but took it 5 times yesterday :(

foxinsocks · 05/08/2012 10:44

Sad poor you Em

I wonder what it is. It's v v annoying. Have woken up with a really bad rash on my chest (could feel it was coming). Still bloody annoying. I feel v tight in my chest and keep having to cough iykwim

Anyone else? Trying to figure out the reason for it

Humidity sets mine off.
It was awful a couple of weeks ago, not so bad now but my cough is hideous and keeps waking me up so I'm constantly shattered.

coppertop · 05/08/2012 12:19

Same as Em.

I haven't had any problems with asthma for years but for the last couple of days I've had to carry an inhaler everywhere, even just to go upstairs.

The air feels really thick and heavy.

FrothyOM · 05/08/2012 12:44

My eczema is playing up and my eyes are itchy.

Humidity sometimes sets me off. I also think it may be mould spores due to the wet weather. I suspect this because I have lived in a damp flat and was covered head to toe in eczema for the two years I lived there. It cleared within weeks of moving out.

Pollen makes my eyes itch too, don't know what the pollen count is at the moment though.

FrothyOM · 05/08/2012 12:45

DS was in hospital with his asthma last week too. Fine now but on higher dose of the brown inhaler.

foxinsocks · 05/08/2012 13:06

Shame I hope you all feel better soon

Yes I've often wondered about humidity. We're out of grass pollen season I think? (which is what normally sets me off) so not sure which pollen comes into play now

Ds2's eczema has flared horribly again - he was furiously rubbing his cheeks on the sheets last night to itch them despite regular steroid and epaderm application :(

NettOlympicSuperstar · 05/08/2012 14:13

Weather definitely affects me, it's the only direct thing I can find that does, whereas DD reacts to sprays and pollen and things, I don't.
I've been allergy tested for everything, and come back clear.

Stokes · 05/08/2012 21:54

This summer my asthma has been the worst it's ever been since I was tiny. I had a cough and then a cold and needed I think 5 weeks of steroid tablets, was taking my reliever every 2 hours when normally I barely needed it morning and night with my preventer. Still needing my reliever 4 or 5 times a day and I'm absolutely shattered. The weather is definitely playing a part, humidity always sets me off so this hot and heavy weather is a killer.

Grrr for all of us

Have taken nurofen as I have a headache and not sure if I can take an antihistamine so of course my skin is killing me and I'm wide awake fgs

Stokes · 06/08/2012 08:18

Ouch foxinsocks. I've taken nurofen and antihistamines together plenty of times - check the packets, I think they can be taken together.

ethelb · 06/08/2012 08:20

My eczema is v bad. Got a flare up on my hands yesterday which is vv rare for me.

ClaireOB · 06/08/2012 11:14

National Pollen and Aerobiology research unit forecast showing high risk of weed pollens and fungal spores. Itchy eyes and legs here Sad

DamselInLastPlace · 06/08/2012 11:20

DS2's eczema has flared up with a vengeance. We spent all day on Friday in hospital with him wheezing and struggling to breathe. They're not saying its asthma as he's too young for them to want to diagnose anything, but he's certainly having trouble breathing.

foxinsocks · 06/08/2012 13:02

I have plastered myself in epaderm ointment which I love but I am at work with it rubbing off on my work shirt so that I look like an oily seal :-)

it's on my chest area (loveeeeeerly)

thanks Stokes. At 1am I eventually gave up and took an antihistamine so at least I slept a bit!

foxinsocks · 06/08/2012 17:43

tell me epaderm comes out of clothes easily!

OP posts:
FrothyOM · 06/08/2012 18:55

I smother both my kids in epaderm ointment before they go to bed. It seems to wash out of their cotton sleepsuits. I wash their bedclothes and sleepsuits on 60 degrees to kill dustmites.
