Some kind of prolapse after childbirth? Freaked out

Sorry for TMI in advance but I'm quite seriously freaked out. I gave birth to DS2 a couple of weeks ago. He was quite big (9lb 2) and back to back. The pushing stage took just over an hour and I managed it with just a little tear. My body feels all together more knackered than when I did this last time 5 years ago, but most worryingly I was feeling a bit odd 'down below' yesterday, and had a feel to see what was going on, and it feels like my cervix is right at the opening of my vagina. Of course, I've googled it and of course I've freaked myself out completely by everything I've read. Did anyone else have this after childbirth? Is it a big deal or is it fairly common? Did it resolve itself (is it just part of the healing process?) or did you have you to have medical help to fix it? I'm doing pelvic floor exercises constantly since feeling it in the hope this might get things back to normal. Help, someone please!?

I had a mild prolapse after DD2. It literally felt as if my insides were falling out. Saw GP and he said to do pelvic floor exercises which I'm happy to say sorted it.

I would be inclined to call the place where you gave birth (if not at home) and ask to speak to the on call doctor. Given it is so soon after you have given birth they should be inclined to give you some advice/reassurance. They may get you to speak to your GP to be referred to a gynaecologist. These sorts of things do happen. Good luck.

Me too, I have had the same problem after all my 3 children. Speak to your midwife or GP and get referred urgently to the pelvic floor physio. Mine was marvellous. My prolapses resolved by excercises. Don't be too alarmed as your vagina is not going to be looking its best or its most toned 2 weeks following birth. I wish you well x

Thanks Everyone,

Footle, I only noticed it since I've been discharged from HV and MW. The HV is based at my GP's though so I can call her tomorrow.

I should just call because I'm worried, but I suppose I guess I'm hoping that it's normal to experience some degree of this in the 6 weeks postpartum. I've had another feel and I don't think it is my cervix, it feels more like a bulge in my vaginal wall. But I'm not a gynaecologist so who knows. I will call GPs tomorrow, but in the mean time thanks for your replies and also reassurances that those who've had this have recovered ok.

It sounds like a possible rectocele. Have you been constipated at all? A rectocele happens when the rectum wall bulges into the vagina (nice!) and can often be brought on by straining for a shit. That's how I got mine 5 years down the line and some weight loss/kegel exercises later and it is much better than it was.

Don't panic, OP! Things can be done to help.

Thanks bupcakes, although the bulge is on the front wall, which i'm guessing could make it a cystocele?
