Is this oral thrush?

On monday evening I ate some sour sweets.
On tues I noticed my tongue felt sore at the tip and round the edges and looked a bit red. It feels a bit like the kind of soreness when you burn yourself on a hot drink iyswim. The roof of my mouth felt a bit sore too..

It has been like this ever since, feels tender, tongue still red round the end. At first I thought the sweets had burnt my tongue but I only had a few and I thought it'd be getting better by now. So now I'm wondering whether it's oral thrush?

I am Breastfeeding but I'm not showing any signs of nipple thrush and neither is ds so if I do have it, it's not related to that.

I do use an inhaler for my asthma which requires me to rinse my mouth after using. I sometimes am lazy and don't rinse so and am wondering whether that might have caused it?

Yes possibly. Are there any white spots or a white covering?

DairyNips · 04/08/2012 10:08

No, not really. It just feels odd, kind of numb but sore and I think I'm salivating a bit more that usualConfused

It may well be. Or geographic tongue.
Call gp andexplain (ESP about steroid inhaler ) and he/she might give you something over the phone. You may be able to buy nystatin oral gel over the counter.

Geographic tongue sounds scary! My gp closes at the weekendSad Will have to try pharmacist. Hope they can give me something as last time I was Breastfeeding I had trouble getting a pharmacist to give me anything Confused

It may be related to a hormone imbalance; 'burning mouth syndorme' is documented for menopausal women following hormone changes, so it does follow that you may be experiencing similar in your post-natal period.

make an appointment to see your GP, and in the meantime avoid v spicy/sour foods. Be meticulous re oral hygiene and drinks plenty of water. And don't worry!
