I went to the doctors a couple of days ago cos under my boob I have a mole which has changed, I also have one come up on my left hand side which now Ben bleeds and is all lumpy and bumpy. While he was checking he was saying " yep they are all fine " then at the end he was like right I'll get reception to email hospital straight away and get you an appt wothin 2 weeks as Im concerned and need to get them looked at??? Now I have an appt on tuesday as he said the one he is particualry concerned about it the one under my boob as its an abnormal shape??

Is it just standard practise to get them seen so quickly?? Am I worrying about nothing??

Thank you
xxxx

oooh I have a brown patch/flat mole on my back that is changing shape but I have to wait until I return to the UK in 6 weeks - what are you supposed to look for in skin cancer?? Also are you not supposed to have changes in moles whilst pg or after??

I'm also developing lots of small very pale brown bumps and before, new moles always started out as dark pink spots. Must go to GP [worrying]

ChampagneandNappies · 08/03/2006 16:02

Hi again! Oh yuk - mine too resembles the 3rd one down. Oh bugger I have cancer in my family too.

tinkerbellchelle · 08/03/2006 16:22

I'm glad your doctor took it seriously.

I am fair skinned and was brought up largely in a hot country. My moles were checked annually and I had to have several unusual ones removed (when I lived in that country).

To cut a long and boring story short, I had a nasty one on my back that was itchy and bleeding slightly (though I think this was largely because of it rubbing on my bra strap). I had to insist it was removed - I was extra concerned because I couldn't see it. The doctor virtually accused me of wasting NHS resources, said it was for a totally cosmetic reason (rubbing my bra strap) and the amount of hysterical people he had to see just because articles were written in the paper about how skin cancer could kill you were completely ridiculous and if only that many people got their children MMR'd the world would be a better place!!

So I'm glad to hear that at least some doctors don't regard people who are worried about moles as hysterical!

Well good luck on Tuesday, tbc - good advice, I will make an appt (prob not till next week though, busy this week)

It's just I have so many moles, 100s of tiny ones, I know most of them are completely harmless (little brown spots) but I used to get sunburnt a lot as a child and I wonder how many will need to be removed, and by what means, and will it hurt, or will I have to have lots of LAs, or can I have a GA, but I hate GAs, etc etc!

tinkerbellchelle · 08/03/2006 16:29

good luck janh, let us know how it goes :) x

aww jan - I think most of the time they zap them out with LA. In fact, I think a lot of GPs can do it in the surgery so if you have to have any removed, hopefully it will be quite quick and painless!

JanH · 09/03/2006 21:07

Thank you, too, fis Smile

I'm sure you're right - most of them can probably stay anyway, I just have visions of myself laid out on a table being zapped like a computer game aaaaargh Grin

How long ago was your bra strap one? I thought the NHS was supposed to be much more aware of moley things these days?

Elf1981 · 09/03/2006 21:19

question (sorry to hijack) but does anybody get new moles and if so, do you get them tested?
I have two new ones on my foot, went to docs and he just told me to keep an eye on them. What do you think?

saffy202 · 09/03/2006 21:26

I went to the gp with a 'funny shaped' mole and was referred to the hospital the following week. They had a weekly clinic where people came with their 'odd' moles and were checked out. The consultant compared the mole I was concerned about with others I had and said they were all abnormally shaped so nothing to worry about although I had thought it looked different to all the others.

alliebaba · 09/03/2006 21:31

I used to have a lovely pretty mole on my face.. in the last few years it has changed into something that resembles:
a) a coco pop
b) one of Nanny McPhee's monstrosities

I am having it removed a my surgery with local anaesthetic. They will 'shave' it off then do the burny thing I can't spell to stop the bleeding. It sounds horrible, but I can't wait

7up · 09/03/2006 22:07

glad you getting the coco pop removed allie, well done for being brave.x

alliebaba · 09/03/2006 22:19

tinkerbellchelle · 10/03/2006 08:41

good luck tinkerbelle

jan, this was only a few years ago. I was a bit outraged but then heard from another mother that she had seen this doc when she had PND and he told her to 'go and hug a tree in the park' as this would be more effective than counselling (so I think he must always be like that)!
