it does say in that link that the cervix xan stick out during vaginal prolapse. for your babies sake i think you should go to the midwife or hosp cath, better safe than sorry and they're usually very understanding of panicing pregnant women so if it's nothing they won't make it too embarressing for you

DumbledoresGirl · 08/03/2006 11:04

And if you are embarrassed about it (and who can blame you?) it would be better to go to the hospital as you are more likely to see somewhere there that you will never see again!

I had varicose veins of the vulva (what a lot of v's) with ds2 but I don't recall anything emerging when I prodded. They weren't painful, exactly, but if I was on my feet for more than...ohh 5 minutes...they throbbed very uncomfortably and felt kind of heavy - does any of that sound familiar, Cath?

Agree with everyone who said go and see your midwife - they have seen it all before (and then some). Don't be embarrassed - just get it checked out.

Lol @ suzy's "small sea creature" suggestion.

(And some of us are well brought up and have never heard the term beef curtains and, more to the point, never wished to...)

Whops notlaughing at you Cath..at suzywong...Hope you ask your midwife asap!

I'd chat to your midwife, cath. She will have seen this time and again. My friend had a similar problem from about the same stage of her second pregnancy. Are you quite small-built? My friend is.. and the whole pressure (physically) of a second pregnancy made quite an impact on the vaginal area.

Each time she described it to me I thought it sounded like a prolapse.. but the midwife examined her and said there was none. It got a bit worse towards the end of the pg.. but was better straight away after the birth.

Thrush can also cause labia swelling if you have been itching.. and thrush is common in pregnancy. Somestimes you can itch in your sleep without realising you have done it.

This sounds like what I had - in which case it's a prolapse of the vaginal walls. Have you tried lots of pelvic floor exercises? Mine didn't go away after the borth - lots of gynae phrsio helped a bit - we have a specialist at our local hosp. I'd advise you speak to the midwife asap.
Good Luck!

Just following up. Cath did you get it checked out? I ask cos I called midwife yesterday cos of heavy feeling down there. I'm 20 weeks pg. She told me to have a look as it could be varicose veins and sure enough I can see things that look just like that. I got a bit of a bulgy vein right at the top of each inner thigh after dd was born and they're now bigger too. The things no one ever told you about being pg! Apparently nothing to worry about but a chiropracter can help so might try that. So just curious how you got on ...

I know this is an old thread but I'm absolutely wetting myself (oh yeah, literally) laughing. Just what I needed. Nearly forgot about the awful pain in my vulval varicocities....

lilyliz · 11/12/2010 17:18

I know you are probably worried about what is wrong but clutching sides at the squat over a mirror bit,let us know how you get on and if there is a diagnosis. good luck
