Ds2, sticky eyes and the most disgusting stuff I have every seen coming out of a small persons nose......What on earth could it be?

He's had a tiny bit of a cold for a few day, really nothing extreme. Then last night he had yukky green eye-bogeys (technical term there) and woke up a few times during the night with them crusted together.

This morning he got up and well, TBH I've never seen anything like it. His eyes look like he's been in a fight (conjunctivius I suspect) but the stuff coming from his nose actually made me feel sick. Really really really thick dark green with possible steaky blood in it, but I really couldn't look at it without my stomach doing somersaults.
Honestly it was truelly vile, I've nevr seen anything like it. We've obviously all had our fair share of coughs and colds but this is a new one on me.
Would it be a chest infection? even though up until yesterday there were no sign of anything apart from a slight runny nose.

BTW I have got an appt at the GP in awhile for him but I thought I ask the wise MNer too.

If it's really really green, I thought this did indicate an infection.

Mind you, Small People do manage to produce huge quantities of revolting stuff with very little effort.

Cadbury · 07/03/2006 10:41

Maybe he has had a sinus infection and this is his body clearing out all the germs from the battlefield - it's amazing how much mucus kids can produce

Mumatuks · 07/03/2006 10:44

Sounds like the streaky blood could be if his nose was blocked and he's blown down his nose hard to clear it he's burst a little blood vessel. It has happened to my DS in the past. Agree with SD on the production of the green stuff, they know how to make it!

satine · 07/03/2006 10:46

My tiny dd has snot running permanently out of her nose at the moment. As fast as I can wipe it, there's more. I did wonder whether to try sticking two tampons up her nostrils for a while, just to give me a break.

(Grin that's a joke, please don't flame me)

Hope your GP can help, LadyTH.

LadyTophamHatt · 07/03/2006 10:47

This really wasn't your average everyday snot
and come to think of it last night he sneezed and did a snot rocket down his face (another nice technical term) and that was pretty vile too. It looked like puss!

He absolutley fine in him self which is another odd thing if it is an infection....

Sounds like a good old-fashioned head cold (as my granny would say) - lots of green stuff from every orifice on the head. Poor lamb. If you want something to bathe his eyes, we had a huge success with hypercal tincture for ds1's recurring conjunctivitis when he was a baby. After a couple of goes with antibiotic cream which didn't work very well, we used diluted hypercal three times a day and it all cleared up and never came back.

wilbur · 07/03/2006 10:50

arf re tampons satine, know how you feel!

SoupDragon · 07/03/2006 10:53

pmsl @ snot rocket!!

chapsmum · 07/03/2006 11:19

glad youve got a gp appt! sounds like he has an infection somewhere, or he has stuck something up it nose and it is festering. the poor wee one!
had seen one of these suggested for nose bleed what do you think? \link{http://www.sallysrockinghorses.co.uk/Accessories.htm\nose bag!}

LadyTophamHatt · 07/03/2006 16:20

Gp said the stuff coming out of his eyes will be causing the stuff in his nose(and/or vice versa). chest, throat and ears all clear.

He has eyes drops for conjunctivius. doc said it's quite a bad case...poor little chap.

tis the lurgy. My snot was technicolour. He may develop a cough and it takes ages to go. Antibiotics unnecessary, it is a virus.

Enid · 07/03/2006 16:25

i had conjunctivitus with it too

TinyGang · 07/03/2006 16:26

Just a long shot - there's no chance he could have stuck something up his nose and it's got stuck is there?

Piffle · 07/03/2006 16:26

dd has had this on the end of 2 weeks of hideous phlegmy coughing. Today had sore ears - creaming in pain actually
So antibiotics....
When she wakes we bathe her eyes in chamomile tea and it takes ages to de gunk her nose from its crustiness and then it flows forth with further revoltingness
But up until today she'd been bright as a button, even with all the symptoms.

LadyTophamHatt · 07/03/2006 16:39

he's full of beans and was really quite annoying at the surgery with his chirpiness however he has looked like shite all day!
Look like he hasn't slept for a week.

sinus pain, earache, cough...it may all come yet

TinyGang · 07/03/2006 16:47

Lol at nuclear wasteGrin

We are going through 'irritating cough' here. A man said to my ds the other day that maybe he should think about giving up the fags, he was hacking away so muchBlush

LadyTophamHatt · 07/03/2006 16:47

ugghh...sounds great!

SoupDragon · 07/03/2006 16:49

I keep thinking there must be a use for toddler snot. an enviromentally friendly alternative to cement for example?

LadyTophamHatt · 08/03/2006 08:27

Enid...the coughing and spluttering started this morning!

And he said last night that his throat hurts when he swallows.

I think we in for the long haul......
