but I can't find it and DH has to travel for work on Monday. Does he need antibiotics? We have a minor injuries unit near here that he could go to tomorrow but he can't get to the GP until at least Wednesday and I think it's more urgent than that. Is that right?

Is there anything he specifically needs to get/ ask for from the Dr? Any other advice?

I had it when I came back from honeymoon. I went to a and e and they wanted to admit me but I asked not to be as id had 3 weeks off work and I had only started that job the April before (this was in the August and 6 years ago).

I was given antibiotics, pain relief and told I had to keep my leg elevated. If he can't get an appointment until wed it may be worth contacting Nhs direct or ooh.

Is the area hot, red, and getting bigger ? If so, its prob cellulitis. Mark the extent now with pen, and then get him to minor injuries first thing. Cellulitis is serious and needs ABs

If you think it is cellulitis then it needs seeing ASAP. Like has been said mark the area and then go in the morning unless it gets a lot bigger then go to a and e

If you think its cellulitis then get to A+E, it can be very serious indeed.

HairyMaclary · 27/07/2012 23:38

It's red around the immediate area, wider area looks a bit shiny and tight. He's out of sorts but that quite possibly has another origin! It's got bigger since this morning, not a lot but noticeably.

Will get him to minor injuries when they open at 8am.

If he is out of sorts with it I would be tempted to go to a and e now. It's one of those things which gets worse so quickly it's not worth taking risks with

RevoltingChildren · 27/07/2012 23:43

Ds had it. He narrowly avoided going to hospital. Antibiotics are needed ASAP.

hellymelly · 27/07/2012 23:46

He will need antibiotics, and the longer you leave it the more chance he will need i/v ones and have to be kept in. I realise A+E on a Friday night not the best place to be, but he could be a lot worse by tomorrow morning.

teenagedreams · 27/07/2012 23:47

My dh had it, they wanted him to stay in on IV abs but he insisted on horse tablets and coming hOme. It's quite serious get him checked out ASAP.

DD spent a week in hospital with this aged 11months, at one point I thought she was going to lose her leg. Get him checked out.

DD spent a week in hospital with this aged 11months, at one point I thought she was going to lose her leg. Get him checked out. She'd been with her father for three days and he'd ignored it for most of that time. The docs said if he'd taken her when it started, simple AB's would have dealt with it.

Ooops sorry for strange double post thing.
