physiotherapy for hip bursitis and osteoarthritis

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of physiotheraphy to help with hip bursitis and osteoarthritis?

I'm 35 years old and have suffered with bursitis in my hip for around 12 months (diagnosed with slight osteoarthritis in the same hip about 2 years ago). My GP originally prescribed sodium diclofenac but the pain has gradually got worse and more frequent so she has now recommended physiotheraphy which I am due to start in the next couple of weeks.

I have terrible problems straightening or turning my leg and acute pain and stiffness when standing from a sitting down position. Sometimes it feels as though the pain will never go away and I'm feeling a bit nervous about my appointment.

Thank you...

Hi

I have had physio for hip arthritis ( complication of ulcerative colitis) and it has been great. After a thorough assessment - lots of moving my leg around- I got exercises to do which really helped and I have now had a steroid injection into the hip which has taken the pain away completely for the past 3 months. Very professional and relaxed. I hope your experience is as positive as mine.

Thank you for sharing your experience Bahamamomma - I'm glad that it has helped you. The steroid injection sounds divine to me at the moment so hopefully that might be another tool in the treatment armour! Thank you again, it's good to hear that the physio might help.

I've had osteopathy for bursitis in hip .
Some of it involved quite painful massage on the area which made it hurt more afterwards but definitely made it go away .

There are many things physios can do to help: pain relief, strengthening, hydrotherapy, stretching and correcting how you walk. I feel your pain. You will see improvement!

I had physio for it (GP prescribed Naproxen sp?). It was really useful and helped ease it almost 100%. It still flares up now and then but i do some of the excersises that helped and it relieves it.

Have some Wine, it's painful I know!

exercises helped me a bit, but the steroid injection in the hip completely cleared it for a year. It's back now, but a year seems good value for one jab!

Wow, thanks guys! I'm feeling really positive about my appointment now (but still going to have some Wine as you've kindly offered Shakey1500!!)

Had physio for bursitis, and eventually they tried a technique with radio waves. It took a while to work.

Have since moved to France, and had the same problem again. The physio here used a tens machine.

The only problem I have now is an elderly cat who insists on lying by me in the evenings, and kicks her feet against my thigh, just where it's at its most sensitive. I try and turn her round, but it doesn't always work.

Thanks tb - intriguing about the tens machine, never heard of it being used for that.

Luckily, I don't have a cat! But I do have a 5 year old Grin
