blurred vision in one eye

I can't see properly out of my left eye

I'm not sure how often this happens as due to a previous squint I use my right eye as a dominant eye anyway, but I know it's not like that all the time

had an eye test about 3 weeks ago and she seemed totally unconcerned -'how odd but they are fine today' was her actual comment

when I have a migraine I completely lose vision in that eye but I've not had one for ages so is it possible it's mini migraines?

I wouldn't leave it- get medical opinion.

If you are a patient of an opthalmic consultant phone and ask.

workshy · 25/07/2012 22:58

I was discharged from the consultant care about 8 years ago

just wondering if I should go back to the optician or the GP?

Tbh, call both and see which is quicker. It will set your mind at rest sooner.

work, I am an optometrist.
First of all, people often do get "ocular migraine" where they have visual disturbances but no headache but mostly the visual disturbances last 20 minutes and then the vision improves. It's unusual for it to last longer than that.
If you cover your right eye, how do things look? Do lines you know to be straight look curvy? Is your colour vision affected?

workshy · 26/07/2012 21:49

if I cover my right eye I see two pictures slightly on top of each other if that makes any sense what so ever?
it's only a couple of mm out but it's enough to make things blury

lasted about 3 hours last night but usually lasts anything between an hour and a day

lines look straight and colour not affected

can't get in to either the GP or the optician until the back end of next week and its been goig on for months so I'm guessing another week won't hurt

hmm, that is a tricky one! the only thing I would say is that it doesn't sound like a neurological problem and the fact that it's frequent but intermittent sounds more like a corneal problem or a tear problem. Is there any discomfort at all? Did you ever scratch or injure the front of the eye?

workshy · 26/07/2012 22:37

I've got hayfever so difficult to tell

never injured my eye but have had 5 squint ops (over 27 years)

If you have hayfever, it could potentially be that you have papillae on the inner surfaces of your lids which distort the cornea of the left eye when the pollen count is high. But why this should happen to one eye only, I'm not sure!
And wow! That's a lot of squint ops!

I have the exact same issue, I am going back to hospital in September, they didn't seem to know what the problem was last year and sent me away after loads of tests.

workshy · 27/07/2012 23:41

I had 4 on the other eye too -I think I'm unique lol
