One ear completely blocked since yesterday - what can I do?

I have had conjunctivitus since last Tuesday night and despite hourly drops (now less frequent) the infection is still there but no where near as bad.

I also have a slight sore throat, high up near my ears. Again, not painful but uncomfortable at times.

Yesterday I woke up and my right ear was blocked. Everything wass muffled in it and it felt uncomfortable, but not painful. I have tried using warm olive oil to clear it, but to no avail. It is still the same this morning.

Is there anything I can do to get rid of it, or what might be causing it? It is driving me mad amnd I feel really off balance as a result.

Its likely to be blocked on the inside IFYSWIM
Its likely that the infection has spread through all the connected tubes and this is affecting your hearing no suggestions on clearing it tho

Thanks anyway. I did wonder if it was all related somehow. It is driving me potty!!!

Try holding your nose and blowing

Hulababy · 06/03/2006 10:15

Tried that several times. Nothing. It is making swooshing noises inside my ear if that makes sense.

sore throat, conjunctivitus are all part of it

I have been deaf in one ear for about four weeks now Sad

Please, no!

Did wonder if a good old ear syringing might help. I have very narrow ear canals though and it really hurts when they do it. Eeek.

Fed up of being grotty and not quite "right"!

cerumol is avalible otc and wil help to break up ear wax. consider gp if you suspect infection.

Hulababy · 06/03/2006 10:52

No GP appointments; could try walk in centre at local hospital. I know they do syringing too.

hulababy, as far as I am aware gps prefer to losen the wax with cerumol, otex etc before attempting syringing.

Enid · 06/03/2006 11:18

syringing wont help

it is mucus

are you snotty?

Hulababy · 06/03/2006 13:11

I went to the NHS walk in centre at doctor's surgery recommendation.

It is all part of the conjunctivitus, which I have had for a week now. once that goes, so will the ear problems apparantly.

Eyes much better though and drops only 4 times a day now. Just sticky and horrid on waking. Can't wear contacts still though as very irratable if I try.

So waiting game.

Thanks all.
