Osteopath help!

My back seems to have broken. In two.
I feel like the Funnybones dog when it's been put back together all wrong.. I went to the dr earlier who has prescribed me pills n stuff but i have never, ever had back pain before (he said lumbago).
A friend of mine advised me to see an osteopath and the dr himself said it could be beneficial (but he can't prescribe it) - anyway i've made an appt for tomorrow evening but am so scared it's going to be too painful and i'll leave on crutches or something terrible.. What do they actually do??!!

Don't worry, it is designed to be gentle but effective. A good osteopath is a thing of wonder. I've nearly kissed mine once or twice.

One of my relatives has had weekly appointments with an osteopath which really helped her long term back/leg pain (sciatica). She said it was occasionally uncomfortable but left her feeling a lot better. Of course it will probably vary from person to person.

Here's a link to some NHS guidance.

Wear decent underwear is my advice. Your legs will be bent up and down and stretched across you so make sure you have sturdy knickers on! I'd get some short gym shorts, tbh.

Golly no need to be scared of an osteopath - mine has literally saved my life .
( suicidal with pain and prognosis )

Another fan of osteopathy here - has made a real difference to my life (had recurring back problems for years). One thing worth knowing is that the pain might actually get slightly worse after treatment before it gets better. Apparently this is due to all the tensed up muscles having to realign themselves once your back has been put right.

Osteopaths are amazing.

Mine sorted my SPD and then prevented me having spinal surgery with lots of regular treatment on two prolapsed discs.

Unfortunately most ostepaths have left Bupa this week due to unreasonable demands, so i cant see mine anymore Sad

if you dont like the manipulation (clicking) side of it you can just have cranial and there were days i was in so much pain and felt so fragile that i could only deal with cranial which i lovely and gentle, but takes longer to heal then so just depends what you can cope with

Thanks for the reassurance.
It's not that i'm scared of the Osteopath, it's just that i'm always.... apprehensive of medical unchartered territories Smile
I'm hoping for less clicking and more gentle manipulation, if possible.

Roll on 6pm!

Nice bra and knickers. I know mine always appreciates it.

It doesn't hurt.
But I find I can feel wiped out later that evening so plan a restful night. And if I have a start of cold I always mention it or the release of the toxins in my body seems to turn it into a 24hr flu type thing.

I love my Osteopath, she is just brilliant.

DS was seeing an osteo weekly at one point as one of his shoulders was significantly lower than the other. She made a big difference and he now just goes once a month. She also helped DH out when he had a trapped nerve in his shoulder.

Theirs is a bit of a wrestler, she gets ds in weird contortions then sort of leans on him, so agree wear sensible undies that you're not going to pop out of!

Hope you feel better soon.
