are cracked lips a sign of dehydration?

DD2 (23 mo) has cracked dry lips. She has been poorly for about 5 days now, heavy cold, nasty cough. She has slept an awful lot over the weekend.
Now she is crying constantly and her breath smells awful. She has eaten a little today but not drunk anywhere near as much as she usually does. Nappy was wet at lunchtime but when I changed her at tea time it was damp compared to usual.
Hmm

o ment to say smelly breath can be a sign of a sore throat i think

Yorkiegirl · 05/03/2006 21:06

I think she may well have tonsilitis like DD1 had last week. she has finally taken herself to bed after screaming non stop for the last couple of hours

Aww, poor little thing. x

dry lips are from breathing through her mouth due to snotty nose. keep the fluids up tho, because the cold can dehydrate her, my doc recommends flat lemonade, the sugary kind. (worry about the teeth once she's better Smile)

Yorkiegirl · 07/03/2006 21:55

well I took her to the docs yesterday. She has a chest infection, ear infection and probable tonsilitis (wouldn't let doc look in her mouth!) Sad

YG sorry your dd is still so poorly.
I'm out in sympathy as dd has hacking chest infection cough and ear infection (both ears of course nothing less) and no way were they getting near her mouth too...
She seems better on a good dose of calpol and brufen though.
Hope your dd improves overnight
