painful piles - anything other that anusol to ease/get rid?

Just what the title says really! (TMI post possibly)

I've had piles since I was pregnant with dc1 (10) and they've sort of came and went away over the years.

All i've ever used to ease the pain when they've been bad is Anusol.

Recently they've been really hard and sore. When I use the cream they soften and let me push them back up, but after a few mins I feel them 'pop down' again.

They're not itchy, just really painful :(

Any remedies, is it worth going to the doctor about? I currently have my period and it's really adding to the discomfort :(

I've recently had piles for the first time (agony!!)
Tried anusol but didn't help at all, I went back to the chemist to see if they had anything stronger and she gave me anusol plus from behind the counter, this has added hydrocortisone and it instantly helped, 3 days later and no more piles.
Might be worth a try, it also has an applicator if piles are internal, ( mine weren't)

I don't think mine are internal, but how would I know?

Will cehck out chemist tomorrow! Anything is worth a go.

Think you'd be better going to your Dr and getting a prescription for Protosedyl suppositories. They also do it in a cream, but the suppositories (grim, though they are) are fab for quick acting relief and settling everything down. I think you'd need the Dr to check whether the source is internal or external. If its getting worse you could also ask about getting a referral to get them tied off (not all that pleasant but sorts it out).

Oh and warm bath (sitz bath) might help.
