Slapped cheek, can anyone help?

My dd was diagnosed with this yesterday, when we went to the walk in centre she had an all over rash that wasn't itchy. Now it's started to itch, big time :( We've given Piriton but most of the information we can find says the rash shouldn't itch, though she does now have the classic red rosy cheeks, She's 8. To complicate things, ds (4) and has now come out in a rash but his is different. While dd's feels smooth on her skin, ds's feels more 'pimply'. Should I get him seen to or just assume he has the same thing? The piriton doesn't seem to be helping poor dd, who is doing all she can not to scratch. She does feel warm to the touch, as does ds but I am assuming he's a couple of days behind her in developign this so the worst is yet to come for him. Apparently the fact that ds2 is breastfed will most likely keep him safe for the time being, is that likely to be the case?
Lots of questions, sorry.

www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Slapped-cheek-syndrome/Pages/Symptoms.aspx - this mentions itching so does sound normal. You could try using a soothing lotion on the rash (maybe something you would use on chicken pox) to help e.g. aqueous calamine cream

Thanks Seona. I'm a little shiocked to see that joint pain, particuarly wrist pain listed as a symptom of adult infection. I was in agony with completely out of the blue joint pain last week and put it down to being generally run down. I assuemd I'd had slapped cheek as a child, I'll have to ask my mum. We have guests coming today and one fo them is newly married sil. Am terrified she could be in early stages of pregnancy. I'll have to drop her a quick messgae I think.

I caught slapped cheek from my DC's a couple of months ago and definitely suffered more than them. I think perhaps the older you are the worse it is, so hopefully your younger DS may not be so bad. I had an incredibly itchy rash but it was soothed with body lotion, maybe try e45, can't do any harm....

I had horrible joint pain in hands, feet, elbows and knees too, for about 4 days, it felt how I would imagine arthritis feels, horrible. I couldn't get my rings on either as my fingers became swollen.
