I have had my mirena coil in for nearly 3 yrs and have never had any problems until now. I went to the Doctors with stomach pain yesterday and he and the nurse checked my coil to see if it was still in position. All I could here were them both saying Ive never seen anything like that and what is it! He sent me straight to the gynaecologist who has also never seen anything like it before! the threads of the coil are supposed to come through the opening of the cervix which is how they take them out, but the threads of mine have somehow come through the wall of the cervix making it impossibe to take out. I will now have to have a laparoscopy where they will try to take it out from the inside. I am very scared right now as there is also a lump which they are unsure of. Does anyone know of this happening before?

I don't know of the coil thing happening.. but I had a laparoscopy when I was 16. In my case it was done under general anesthetic and a small cut made in my belly button (it only needed one stitch). They had a good look at my ovaries and fallopian tube and I was eventually diagnosed with Polycystic ovary syndrome.

was the recovery ok? will I need to stay in or could I come home after?

I've had a laparoscopy but have no experience of the other stuff, sorry.....

The operation was fine. I felt a bit rough afterwards and had some pain from my stitches (but also had a hystrocepy? too)

I came out the same day.

Good Luck Smile

Normal laproscopies are done as day surgery. Usually you can come out the same day. The proceedure is a short one.

They may make a few small incisions around your tummy to get a good look (they use small cameras). Quite often they use some gas to 'inflate' your tummy so they can get a better view. So you might feel bloated for a while.

You will be sore and lifting isn't to be advised for a while. You will be discharged with painkillers and minus your coil hopefully. Also hopefully they will have a better idea about what the lump is.

Good luck, I hope it goes well.

I've had one too, a long time ago now, to diagnose endometriosis. Day surgery, although they did say to pack a bag just in case I had to stay in overnight, a couple of stitches and dressings, the stitches dissolved iirc. Only thing I remember about it was that the stitches were really itchy!
