I get aura migraines, headache no vomiting etc.

For a couple of days DS1 has been complaining of what I thought was a sinusy headache, he is prone to them.
However today after being sick on the school bus, i came home to find him lying on the sofa crying saying his head was sore and so was his tummy.

He went and lay down, and then asked for a shower, is aid no to sshower, but ran him a warm bath. Anyway he got out of the bath and about 10 minute latrer fainted, he said his head went all funny and dizzy. He was then really sick again.

Now he says his headache has eased slightly, but the way he's describing it, I wonder if it's a migraine? A cold cloth and darkened room seem to be helping him, as is sleeping.

Sorry, posted too soon.
if you get a tummy ache or vomiting how long does it last, indeed does it sound like a migraine that he has?

What age is he? I definitely suffered from migraines from I was 6/7

CMOTDibbler · 17/07/2012 20:21

Could well be a migraine, but could equally be a bug of some sort based on a few days of headache.

Normally when I vomit the nausea goes but definitely sllep ina darkened room, Migralieve are very good they have an anti-sickness but best used when first signs appear give him paracodal & neurofen and hopefully he will sleep it off

Funny when I was age I always had them on a Monday, or if I skipped a meal

It could well be a bug of some sort, i just questioned migraine based on my own knowledge of them, and the darkened room etc.

If I have a nausea migraine then usually once I've vomited then my head begins to ease and these were the migraines I had most often as a teenager.

Now I usually just get the distorted vision and the head pain, but they seem to go on for days rather than be over quickly.

I hope he manages to sleep it off, and in future try paracetamol (calpol fast melts or similar) as soon as he feels the pain coming on. It sometimes can stop it being so severe.

i've never felt faint or dizzy with a migraine, but I do get auras AND sickness.

i generally just feel really rough, then puke and feel better but headache remains. I HAVE to be in complete darkness until it goes away.

Well there is a genetic link, so it may well be migraine, although if he has been unwell for a couple of days it could be a bug?
Might be worth you keeping a diary to monitor any symptoms, I would probably be reasonably discreet about it so as not to make it a big deal and perhaps stress him unnecessarily.

When i get them I am totally debilitated for up to 48 hours. I always get a warning with the aura, but sometimes I cannot stop them.

I know he must be ill as he has never asked for tv/x-box/psp etc!

Bad mother that I am I have no calpol in teh house,a nd although he's 14 he stresses over swaolling tablets. I did manage to get anurofen into him though Grin
