Yucky nappies-sorry if TMI !!!

Ds is nearly 9 months old and his nappies are usually fairly normal, but the last 3 have been awful.Sorry if tmi,but I've had to throw one vest in the bin as it leaked everywhere and the contents looks very similar to chicken puree including the colour! I know their nappies can be rather explosive when teething(which he is),but is chicken colour poo also normal? He's fine in himself, apart from his bits being a bit red, which I've also put down to teething-I thinkBlush.
Has anyone else experienced this? He's sleeping and eating as normal, with no temperature,so I don't really want to take him to our GP if this is just another teething sign.
TIASmile.

My DS was (and still is) the same when teething - yuk! I too have thrown away vests because I just can't bear them!

MamaG · 04/03/2006 09:12

oh sorry, meant to say, same colour as well - yuk!

HappyMumof2 · 04/03/2006 09:37

probably is teething or just a virus. They can get the pale poo with a virus. Does it smell awful too?

SHHHH · 04/03/2006 09:44

I have just gone through the same experience. DD's nappies have been v v v v v v v bad since last sunday. She had this sickness bug about 3 weeks ago and has been fine since..but dispite having awful nappies she seemed ok in herself. Didn't want food as much but did not seem ill iykwim. Took her to gp's on wed who suggested teething (yup top teeth are coming through) but surely she wouldn't have such bad nappies for nearly a week..the washing was killing me.!

Well, I have changed her onto soya milk thinking she may have a lactose intollerance and since then the nappies have improved about 90%..!!!

Who knows what was wrong but I daren't change the milk..!!!

Good luck.

From a mum who has also been up to her eyes in sh1t...!!!!

Bubbaloo · 04/03/2006 10:13

Thanks for your repliesSmile.

Happymumof2-Yes,they do smell but not really bad. They just look horrendous!

Sounds like it probably is to do with teething as we're also waiting for the top 2 to come through, but if it gets worse or carries on for a few days perhaps I'll take him to our GP next week.

There was me thinking I'd given him too much chickenGrin.

Two weeks ago, I had a very similar nappy problem too... I did put it down to teething, new food etc... It did last for a week. I wouldn't take the baby to the doctor unless fever or body rashes appeared... Antibiotics are given too freely for anything... Babies body has to cope with so many new things, it is normal they get sick!!!!

Bubbaloo · 04/03/2006 14:28

Thanks SunshinebabySmile.
I've just thrown another vest away and spoke too soon-all ds has eaten today is half a yogurt.I know just before his first tooth came through,he went off his food also,so looks like there's more of that to come. He's also on his 2nd nap of the day already,so let's hope he sleeps tonightGrin.

All the best I hope he sleeps tonight! Just to reassure you, I use washable nappies... I rinse them with the vest in cold water (disgusting job, as you can imagine!!latex gloves come sometimes very handy..) and throw everything in the washing machine with any other whites. The wash goes at 70 degrees and no trace of the dirt... So no waste of the vest....

Bubbaloo · 04/03/2006 20:15

That's really handy to know Sunshinebaby-thanksSmile.

I am starting to get a little worried though as we've now changed about 9 of these nappies today. He normally only goes a couple of times a day.Is it "normal" to have these awful nappies that many times in one day, when they're teething?

He also only drunk 2oz's tonight which isn't like himSad.

I don't remember changing as many as 9 nappies a day but maybe I did. Did he cry more than usual during the day? Diarrhea make us Adult tired, so I can imagine that your little one must have wanted to go to sleep before getting any milk. Maybe try to give him so more liquid (milk or water) later on tonight. And make sure that he has lots and lots of liquid during the day. And check his temperature. I wouldn't get to worried if he hasn't got any fever. These little one can make us so worried at time but we have to remember that their little body are going through so much in their 1st years. Hugs and kisses are always such a wonderful feeling so i am sending some too to your little heartSmile

Bubbaloo · 04/03/2006 21:23

ThanksSmile.
Well,he woke up about an hour ago with a messy nappy and went back down again for 10 mins and needed changing againShock.I tried another bottle and he drunk about 5oz's,had some Medised(as he felt a bit hot) and went back to sleep.I've phoned NHS direct just to get their opinion, and I'm waiting for a nurse to ring me back.I think it's more likely to be a bug than teething-then again I may be wrong!

I hope he is ok. Let me know what the nurse said. You have done the right thing to call the NHS. A mummy knows better. Fever is always a sign. Keep strong and this little one is so lucky to have you.Smile

Bubbaloo · 04/03/2006 22:30

The nurse was very nice, asked loads of questions and said she doesn't think it sounds like a bug as ds would be grumpy and lethargic etc...
Told me to get some Neurofen tomorrow as it helps the gums, feed him mash potato, rice and pasta(binding foods) but not banana, and to make sure he drinks plenty. She said if it persists then to speak to the hv on Monday.
He's still asleep now,so hopefully he'll go through the night and be feeling a little bit better in the morningSmile.

How was he today? As well as teething sometimes new food disturb my little one's health but then she gets better after few days. I will say and say it again if he doesn't have any fever you shouldn't get to worry. But seeing the HV always help so if you think it is necessary go and see her. All the best

Bubbaloo · 05/03/2006 19:14

He hasn't been well at all today.I've changed about 15 nappies, which were all yucky and bright yellow(sorry if TMI)-it even went through his vest, sleeping bag, sheet and mattress! He also vomited earlier on so much that all his clothes went straight in the bin and the highchair had to be hosed down and disinfected in the garden.I phoned my local A&E who were very unhelpful and told me to "google" teething symptonsAngry.I ended up phoning the emergency doctor and she was really lovely. He has a bug, isnt to have any milk or food, only Diaralyte(SP)sipped throughout the day for the next couple of days.
Such a shame-he's so miserable and I go back to work in the morning, after having a year on maternity leave,so my poor old mum has got all this to see to.

oh bubbaloo - that is so rough. really hope your litle guy on the mend soon. must be really hard to go back to work as well. are you still thinking of giving notice?

Bubbaloo · 05/03/2006 19:27

Hi Lummox-ThanksSmile.
Yep,definately handing my notice in.I really want to do it tomorrow but it seems kind of bad,on my first day back, especially as I'll probably have a new contract to signBlush.Oh well...got to put ds first and travelling up to the city just isn't going to be practical anymore-wish me luckGrin.

Oh dear! It is unfortunate that you are going back to work and baby is sick. But you are lucky to be able to leave him with your own mum. I don't have any family around, only friends (and they all work!), so my little one goes to nursery! They kept her while she was sick but it was not a bug... I hope he will get better very quickly, and I am sure he will get all the love from your mum while you are at work. I know how it feels to go back to work so wish you all the best of luck Smile

lummox · 05/03/2006 20:38

Good luck for tomorrow Bubs! Bet the commute will feel really strange. Hope it goes well and works out as you want it.
