Second bout of herpes, what can I do

Hello.
I think a second bout of genital herpes is just starting and I am so scared of the pain. What can I do now, on a Sunday, to cope.
Been to pharmacist but nothing available.
I had my first attack a few months ago and have not yet recovered from the trauma of the pain, and embarrassment too.
It is type 1 if that makes a difference. Dh seems to have a cold sore today too. We have been together 15 years but naively did not know that cold sores transfer to genitals through oral sex!

At the moment it is not too bad. How much worse will it get second time round?

Sorry for all questions on a Sunday!

I was going to NC for this but hey, if we want to break the taboos around GH than maybe I should preach by example Grin - I have had it for over 15 years and it does get better. And for those with judgey pants; I was wearing a bloody condom when I caught it.

First of all

You need to get yourself to the GP first thing tomorrow and request some oral antiviral such a acyclovir and the like.

If you can get yourself to a chemist, buy a bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide ( the one you can dilute for oral disinfection or skin ) Dilute it as per the bottle and put that in a spray bottle. Spray the affected region several times a day. Why ? The virus cannot thrive in an environment with high oxygen and the Peroxide is just that, high in oxygen and will help shorten the outbreak locally.

Other good tricks- Buy a cheapo drying skin cleaser such as Clearasil for acne and use it to clean the affected region,I would stear clear of baths , showers are better. When at home try to wear long skirts and no underwear (i'm assuming you are a woman) to keep the area dry. A few dabs of tea tree oil a few times a day will also help.

PM if you have any questions you have if you don't want to post here. Only too happy to help.

Thank you so much for your help.
You are right, we should not name change as the taboo needs to go. I was going to leave my name but panicked!

I rang a friend, for comfort really, and she had some famciclovir so has given me her box of them. So I wil start them now.

Will get to chemist tomorrow for the hydrogen peroxide and a spray bottle. Thanks for that tip, I did not know that.

My period started today too which certainly does not help (sad).

I have read that subsequent attacks are not as bad so hope that is the case as right now I am scared.

Thanks for replying.

It's very common for outbreaks to coincide with periods.

First outbreak feels like you are going to die. Subsequent ones will be tough but better. It will settle and happen less and less eventually.

What the hell.... I'm in too Smile

I have type 1 too and my GP very helpfully gave put Acyclovir tablets on repeat prescription for me and told me to just request a pack when not having symptoms and keep the pack in my house in case an outbreak should start on a weekend or holiday.

I've only had 2 minor outbreaks after my first one in 2008, once when my immune system was shot because I had severe tonsillitus.

Maybe ask about the repeat thing? x
