Do you ever zone out?

This is going to sound like I am on drugs or drunk and I can assure you I'm neither!

Just had a really weird feeling, I opened a thread and I had this really weird sensation that felt I like I was sitting on top of the words (I realise that makes no sense!) and I had to drag myself back to reality. It was a similar feeling to when you are asleep and are trying to control the dream you are in, or when you have false awakenings and try to rouse yourself out of your dream.

Also there have a couple of occasions recently where I have realised that I have zoned out even though I'm not asleep.

Since the birth of ds I have had migraines (without headaches) and I'm wondering if it is related to this.

Could well be migraine related, but most likely to be staring at screen related!

This happens to me, i can be reading, or looking at stuff and can just go a bit off focus and everything tends to stand still, its not altogether unpleasant actually - not just when im reading or looking at screen but this is when it is most likely to happen. I wouldnt worry, but i would also be willing to place a small bet that you have a migraine on the way - sorry :(

Oh good, I'm glad it's not too serious. I have been spending too much time looking at the screen lately, I think I need to take a break away from it.

yes, this happens to me, especially when i am stressed, i have recently been diagnosed with depersonalisation which i was informed is more common than people think.

I actually ended up having loads of tests a couple of years ago when my mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer because they were happening up to 20 times a day at the worst point. They thought it might be a type of epilepsy at first.

GotMyLittleLamb · 14/07/2012 21:25

although it does sound like you have a much simpler explanation and i didn't mean to freak you put there...

BonnieBumble · 14/07/2012 21:32

Just looked at your link Lamb and it is exactly as described. I am also very stressed at the moment so this might be contributing to it.

hi bonnie I won't pretend to be knowledgable about it as this is just my experience but I found the whole thing was really hard to explain and I was 'in the room' but not iykwim. I ignored it and thought it was nothing until it happened when i was driving. I was safe but I had no idea what could have happened. Once my mum had passed away they pretty much completely stopped and the tests found no neurological reasons for them (so not epilepsy). It might be worth going to your GP, but it might well be migraine or computer issues. Hope your feeling better, PM if you want to talk more, I will try and explain how I felt but its really hard and weird and not like anything else I don't think. I only get them maybe once a month now, and only when I am under proper stress.

Fiveflowers · 14/07/2012 21:43

I've experienced this a few times when I've been under extreme stress.

I've zoned out when I've been doing something 'mindless' like shampooing carpets for example. I think the repetitive motion led to a kind of hypnosis which made me feel very detached. It frightened me a bit but your link explained it so well Lamb, I now feel very reassured, thank you.

I've also had it once when I was driving - scary.

Julialyne · 15/07/2012 13:08

It might still be wise to get checked out for petit mal epilepsy just to check it's not that.

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 15/07/2012 16:43

I also experienced this after DS was born... it was frightening. But the MW reassured me that it's a very common thing after the stress associated with childbirth.... a stress which in my case came mainly from sleep deprivation. But it stopped as quickly as it began. OP, I hope it passes for you, too...

I have similar bouts, have done since I was a teenager. I didn't say anything for years as feared I would sound mad but when I began to get bad headaches the neurologist asked ig I had such symptoms. Apparently it is a common migraine symptom.
