Menstrual cycles after surgery - any stories?

i had major abdominal surgery 8 weeks ago for fibroid removal. Since then my periods have gone from a regular 4 week cycle to what is emerging as a three week cycle. My consultant says they might stay like that now and wants me to try clomid to get things regulated (in under investigation for infertility). It feels a bit like early days to me, but he said they should be back to normal now. I'm interested to hear in how your periods were after surgery of any kind. When they opened my up the fibroid had degenerated (!) so as it was, my womb wasnt cut. I'm fretting after reading that a 21 day cycle means poor egg quality, don't you just love Dr Google?

My periods have totally changed after heart surgery last November. Previously, my cycle was longer than average, about 30-35+ days, and not particularly regular. Now my cycle is 23-25 days normally and very regular. I have no idea how this affects fertility, because my family is completed, but I hate my heavy, frequent periods.

It's too often isn't it? A week of bleeding and a week of pmt doesn't leave much in between. Did you ask your gp about it?

Yes, she's recommended mirena, which doesn't get a great press here. However, I'm desperate, and also a little anaemic so I'm going to give it a go.

I can see that it's not the answer for you if you're ttc. Why not give the clomid a go if the gynae has recommended it? My cycle is showing no sign of lengthening, but I didn't know that this was something that other people widely experienced.

Thanks for replying. My cons seemed to think it was relatively common Confused I'm also anaemic (spatone has made me feel better though) and thoroughly pissed off with it! I wonder if the GA does it? I'm going to give it a few months before embarking in clomid. I'm moody enough as it is!
