Any chronic migraine sufferers out there?

As above, really. I don't know anyone in RL who has this bloody delightful condition besides myself, interested in other people's experiences and how you handle everyday life. Personally I'm sick of not being able to get through a year at uni or hold down a job or make social plans.

Come talk :)

(please. i'm desperate for an understanding voice!)

Yes, me unfortunately I was diagnosed years back, though not sure how much of an understanding voice I can be, as I'm finding out that my chronic migraine, may not actually be chronic migraine & currently waiting on test results that I should have been sent for years ago IYSWIM - I have had a migraine diagnosis going back over 30 years though.

THIS SITE might be of help, it was given to me by the migraine specialist at my local hospital & it is actually her sire, so lots of useful info on there, lots free, but worth buying a membership too.

Have you been given supplement advice ?? - I was told at the migraine clinic to take high dose magnesium & riboflavin(Bvit) supplements - they do help.

Also have you had any neck injuries/scans ?? - if not, make sure they look into that before palming you off with a CM diagnosis

I read Vit D is meant to help too, I was researching dh's migraines.

@ Fluffy - yes you are right it can help, but the GP should have tested for a deficiency with this diagnosis & a lot of others too - they can prescribe a vit D supplement if deficient - mine came back as okay so I was advised that it wasn't a good idea - the Mag & Ribo are good to take even if not deficient

HTH :)

Feverfew can be a brilliant preventative if taken daily too - really reduced my once killer bi-monthly & storm related migraines down to vague headaches - but not good if BF or TTC - doesn't seem to work so well with menopause/perimenopause either - though that might be down to mine not been actual migraine

Yes, I have chronic ('silent') migraines, diagnosed last year. I also have MS and thought it was getting worse until the neurologist identified migraine as the cause of the nausea, anxiety, inability to concentrate, visual disturbances and perceived weakness. I now take gabapentin as a prophylactic. Had to stop during this second pregnancy but the damn things returned with a vengeance and I'm restarting it now the baby seems to be fine.

It was in one sense a great relief to find the real cause of last year's hell - things were manageable until my periods returned after my first pregnancy - but I lost a lot of weight through nausea and was quite unable to work. I suggest you see a specialist and talk about preventative meds, if you haven't already. If you can afford to go private the London Migraine Clinic is very good. Sympathies!

I started getting migraine more regularly once I hit 30. My mum had the same, and they went down again when she had the menopause. I have found Feverfew helpful tho it is unhelpful Holland and Barrett just stopped stocking it! I also take pills that I got from my GP, they are pretty good. I think Danny Boyle was right on the NHS so I'd never go private, but in any case there is no great cure for migraines out there. That's hard, but the docs are right in my case when they say 'don't overdo things' - my headaches are definitely worse when I overwork or over-exercise. Blue cheese and chocolate makes things worse, but definitely overdoing things that brings them on. They can last up to three days. Hate them. Found tons of useful information at www.migrainetrust.org/
