I think you need to look for sudden drowsiness, fluid coming out of the ears, vomiting, him rubbing his head (headache).

They usually also say its a good sign if the bruising comes out straight away.

Poor little mite, its horrible when they hurt themselves.

MerlinsBeard · 02/03/2006 18:37

he is rubbing his head but where he banged (his forehead!!) so thats understanable, had a cold wet flannel on it for a bit

scared the b'jesus out of me!

If he is sick once, this is a normal reaction, anymore than once then he will need to be seen.

Radley · 02/03/2006 18:38

he may probably be rubbing his head because of the cold flannel, just keep a close eye on him for the next 24 hours or so.

desperateSCOUSEwife · 02/03/2006 18:38

do not let him go to sleep for as long as posss

waterfalls · 02/03/2006 18:44

Not letting them go to sleep is an old wives tale, let them sleep if they become drowsy, it is a side effect of banging your head.............was told this by a paramedic a couple of months ago when ds banged his head hard.

The NHS Direct web site has information about signs to watch out for, and for how long if children bang their heads.

MerlinsBeard · 02/03/2006 18:51

Thanks MN'rs. And sorry for having a mad panic!!!

agree with waterfalls it is very normal for a wee one to be tiered after a knock to the head. Calpol for the pain, hugs for the tears.
My chap did exactly this yesterday, wee monkeys keep you on your toes.
The forehead is actually a fairly robust part of the skull,
persistant vomiting, severe lethargy, back eyes fluid (including blood) from noes of ears or poor co-odination/balance (though I'm sure it wasn't great to start with) should be checked out ASAP! Also you should have a dr see him if he was knocked out at all.
When he goes to sleep you can check that he is normally rousable by tickling his toes up untill you go to bed.
More info on NHS direct website!
