Although I do have a dull achey slightly crampy feeling but that came after the GP's examination.

Thank God for Mumsnet, I am so glad not to be going through this alone. Apart from DH, but you know...

Have had this a few times over last 6 months - I also have mirena. Been for tests, ultrasound and smears but all were clear. They have put it down to hormones and doc has suggested changing coil as had it for 4 yrs now. I was very worried about it but seems (when you google it) that it isn't uncommon with a mirena.

Shouldacouldawoulda · 12/07/2012 08:38

No better, worse if anything. Cramping and a lot of clotting. Like a period but worse, and I've not had a proper period for years using Mirena. Time to change contraception I think, whatever the outcome of this is.

Back to the GP I think.

Oh pet :(
Do you think A+E might be a better option? At least you'd get an ultrasound and a clear picture of what's going on...
Should be nice and quiet now too hopefully.
Hugs for you:(

I had the mirena and had what you describe. It came out somewhere or other, and I never did find it! I only realised when like you I had a heavy period. I was surprised because I'd not had any for a while.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 12/07/2012 08:53

Poor you :-( I'd go for A&E, I think. As Fucker says, at least they can do the ultrasound.

Shouldacouldawoulda · 12/07/2012 09:57

Housewife, I think that may be what it is, but the bit that has me over-thinking it is that the 'period' started straight after intercourse, no previous spotting or anything. I've had 2 consecutive Mirenas so not had a full period for 8 years.
Luckily DD is approaching puberty so I was well stocked with towels.

Ok. How old are you? I had bleeding after sex once last year so the doc sent me for blood tests and it turns out I'm peri menopausal too. Oh the joys. I was 39.

Housewifefromheaven · 12/07/2012 10:30

As well, it could be that the blood loss you had after sex was from the cut of when the coil came out. Then, the loss of the coil bought on your period

Shouldacouldawoulda · 12/07/2012 10:44

I like Housewife's theory best, it is the least concerning. Still waiting for the postman but if the appointment doesn't come through I'll go back to my GP and get him to book it over the phone.

I agree that by far the most likely explanation is its a period brought on by loss of mirena

Shouldacouldawoulda · 12/07/2012 10:52

I hope so, it makes good sense. It could be the shock and the fact I'm out of the habit that has made it so much worse.

Just need to either find the pesky Mirena or be sure it's gone so I can relax.

It is scary to be hit by period when you don't expect to have any :(

Hope you get checked over and have you mind put at rest

Shouldacouldawoulda · 18/07/2012 14:50

Update.
Just got back from appointment at hospital. Transvaginal ultrasound- I didn't even know there was such a thing but I do now.

My Mirena is still in the right place, and my initial reaction to that was positive.
Then I realised that meant the bleeding must be for another reason. I have to wait for up to a week for results from my GP and am resisting all temptation to start googling again.

You poor thing going round in circles like that. At least the mirena is still in place.
