Diarrhoea in 20m old - which advice to follow?

Sorry - I know theres probably a million threads on this but archive search is out of action ( and theres a million ways people spell diarrhoea!)
DS 20m has had 4 explosive, very bad smelling nappies in the last couple of hours -each one getting more watery and leaking through clothes etc. No vomitting (touch wood!)
Haven't got any experience of diarrhoea in children ( been lucky so far with both of them). Looked on NHS direct website etc -some say don't feed them, others say feed them carbohydrate-rich food.
DS currently asleep but normally loves his food - do I feed him/what do I feed him when he wakes.
And any other advice please.

just make sure he drinks plenty of water or dioralite if you have any in. if he's hungry then try him with simple things like bananas, toast, digestive biscuits. keep an eye out for how much he is weeing, if all his body fluids are being lost through diarrhoea then he needs to be checked out by a gp.

No dairy products.

Sorry, had to disappear -he woke up so had to get him up and then deal with the aftermath of another nasty nappy -think the washing machine is going to be busy.

Thanks for that -have given him dry bread and water. Hes fine in himself until the "explosion" and then he gets really distraught, poor mite Sad

Will try and keep an eye on wee but difficult as the dirty nappies soak every crevice of the nappy. (TMI!)

bs our dd is the same (I also started a thread on this) both gp and nhs direct told me to feed what she wanted. No need to starve them etc. I have been feeding dd what she wants as I have struggled for a week to get her to eat and have had horrendous nappies since sunday Sad. Last night was a "cutting out of the babygrow" job..Sad.

But I think dd may have lactose intollerance so like posted below I am staying clear of dairy products..worth a go..!!

Heres to a poo free home!!!!

Just been through this very recently with my little one and he's just turned two. I also suffer from a very week stomach so it was very bad. It lasted three days in my little one and in the end all we fed him was plain biscuits and very watered down juice. He's back to normal food now but his dirty nappies still aren't normal. It's almost white and still very smelly. But he's not in pain anymore. I recommend double nappies and caremats on the bed where they sleep. Also change on care matts as I picked up a nappy and it was that runny that it just poured out. Good luck and I hope you have a stronger stomach than me.

SHHHH -sorry your little ones been suffering too. Its awful when it gets through to the clothes isn't it? I've ditched the all-in-one vests today after trying to get 3 in a row over his head when they were dirty!
The whole house stinks despite me putting drops of lavender oil everywhere.

Flip -wish I'd thought about the caremats! During a nappy change earlier DS had another explosion -I've had to bin the changing mat (it had one rip in it and of course thats the bit that got covered). Making do with towels and the folding mat from changing bag.

Thanks everyone -somehow things don't seem so bad when you know you're not the only one up to their eyes in poo! Wink

Thanks for the advice as well flip. DD has a caremat on her cot but I need to sort out her changing mat. I agree that the smell is v v v v bad...smells like sick and makes me want to do the same!

I agree bs about the fact that others are experiencing the same. Over the last few days noone seems to have the same problem as we have and I felt something was wrong with dd..now I know that maybe it is something she will get better from.!!

Yeah our home smells as well..Sad.Off to Tesco now for some air freshners. LOL!!!
