Please help calm my fractious mind... I think DP is diabetic.

And I'm not sure he will do anything about it. I'm hoping that he will as he seems to have taken on board when I have said to him today about it. But he seems to want to bury his head in the sand when it comes to his own medical issues.

DP is 22 next week. For the 3 years we have been together, I have noticed a few problems with his health, but the majority of which he hasn't been to see the GP and have sorted. He has lived with me for over 2 years now, and only registered with a GP 3 months ago at my insistence.

Okay, so. I think he might be diabetic. I am a health care professional, but definitely not my area of speciality.

Am I catching the wrong boat here, or does this list of symptoms ring any bells to anyone. More to the point, can anyone tell me I am being a paranoid pregnant woman?

He has excessive night sweats.
He has a very dry mouth, he regularly has 'white gunk' in the corners of his mouth when he gets thirsty, which is often. His breath is awful at the moment, which could be because he does need a filling in one tooth, but I can't be sure what the cause is. He brushes his teeth twice a day, and uses Corsodyl mouthwash etc... so his dental care is good. I don't remember his breath being like this except in the last 8 months or so.
He has had boils on his backside which have been reoccuring and taking a long time to heal.
He has ingrowing toenails in both feet, again, they aren't healing, and bleed every day.
His Nan was a type 1 diabetic, he thinks around the age of 50 was when she developed it.
He regularly gets the 'shakes' if he doesn't eat, his intake is quite large, and for quite a while what he was eating was the wrong things. He was very underweight, at 10stone and 6ft 2. Two years ago, with in 4 months, he put over 4 stone on. He says if he doesn't eat, he feels terrible. I recognise that is normal, but its very frequent for him, 2 hours seems his limit from what I have noted. He does have a much better diet now thanks to my nagging but it hasn't improved the above.

And yes, I am aware I have made him sound like a right catch above Hmm but he really is I swear! I won't bother to go in to his good qualities as that isn't the point of my post. Am I justified to persuade him to see the GP.

Hmm, hard to say. It could be lots of things. When a member of my family was undiagnosed diabetic (Type 1), he lost a stack of weight very fast, which is common. But Type 2 diabetes is caused by being overweight. My family member also had an appalling temper - again caused by high blood sugar - very irritable. Also had boils and problems with feet as you mentioned. But no one on here can help you diagnose him. Get him to the GP for a blood test. He sounds very run down, either way.

Getting 'the shakes' if he doesn't eat is more a symptom of hypOglycaemia (low blood sugar) than hypER which he would have if undiagnosed diabetic.
