Toddler with dry skin - any good facial creams ?

My DS (20 months) has lovely round cheeks that are quite red at the moment as he is teething again !

I notice when we come back from the park and he gets a good dose of wind and sun on his face, he gets very dry, patchy bits on his cheeks.

I have been using the Johnson's one, but it doesn't seem to last very long, i.e I have to use it several times a day.

Any one use/know of a good facial cream for infants ? Anything organic around ?

Try this! My skin was cracked and broken and everything that touched it felt like flames. My friend recommended this and it worked a treat. I now also use the king of skin body bar after having a bath or shower.

have you tried hemp from the body shop i swore buy it with my daughters exzema

Another vote for aveeno. Olive oil is also good to put on before they go out to protect the skin.

BudaBabe · 01/03/2006 21:08

Found good old Nivea works well - the thick one in the little tin.

Another vote for hemp cream here.

I can recommend Eumobase - available from the chemist/Boots - could also ask your GP to prescribe it if necessary x

I've just posted similar on the cracked hands thread, but Asda dry skin cream in a tub works wonders for ds2's dry skin.
He does have Diprobase (I think) cream on prescription for his eczema on the rare occasions it flares up, and that's great stuff. But when we run out the Asda cream is brill. It's the tub one not the tube, as the tube is too watery.
I always recommend l'occitane cream for adults but it's perfumed so not good for baby faces.
Olive oil is also great but leaves children shiny-faced and smelling like posh chips! Good stuff if you don't mind the greasy niff.

MIL swears by vaseline, and we also put it on the dss lips in winter, in fact looking at ds2's cheeks this morning I remember thinking I ought to put vaseline on his face next time we go out.

Kamiiosan ointment

I used my lansinoh nipple cream on soft little cheeks - was perfect as it provides a lovely thick barrier between skin and cold air - a little like the Arden 8-hour cream.

I used dermol on ds its expensive but you can get it on prescription and I really liked diprobase for my sore bits, I hope your ds gets better soon x

Aveeno cream

koolkat · 02/03/2006 14:25

Coolmama - you REALLY like your Lansinoh don't you as you have posted about 10 times Grin

I still have some left over from the time I used it on my nipples in the first few months - will give it a go as it's probably very good - did wonders as I never got sore or bleeding nipples despite baby being a milk monster at the time !

Hadn't thought of using it on his face.

I use the E. Arden creams myself, but wasn't sure if they are gentle enough for infants. I just wondered if they might have chemicals that aren't very good for very young skin ?

I use aqueous cream on my kids - all over them, face and body! E45 is good or just plain old vaseline!
I've never liked Johnson's myself, think it's too perfumed.

Highlander · 02/03/2006 18:15

Aveeno - you can apparently get it free from the HV ( I bought mine on the internet Sad.
