I am at the end of my tether. I don't know how to help dh. 2 months ago he had a tooth abcess. Had tooth out. It took 4 lots of antibiotics and a month to clear the infection but is left whither debilitating chronic headaches.

He has had a bad head everyday for 2 months and its getting to us all. We have been to hospitals who just said his blood count was ok and sent him home. The doctor has given him migrane tablets which seem to be making it worse! And now he can't get another appointment for nearly 2 weeks.

What can I do? Do I need to take him back to the hospital? Yell at the docs to get an earlier appointment (which as they don't seem to be taking it seriously seems a bit of a waste of time)

He has had full blood tests that have come back clear. Been to the opticion and his sight is fine but did say 2 blood vessels seemed to be pushing on each other (since had blood pressure checked, fine)

Help

It might sound silly but does your DH wear glasses? It might be a coincidence and he needs a sight test. Or yell at your GP for an emergency appointment and a hospital referral. So sorry for your poor DH :(

A bit of a long shot but have you noticed him clenching his jaw? Or grinding his teeth at night? I had bad headaches for over 6 months, doctor said stress related but when at routine check up at dentist, he asked how I was and I mentioned headaches. He checked my jaw muscles etc and turned out I have bruxism. I am now conscious of clenching my jaw and straining my jaw when yawning etc and it has helped massively.

Hi, not a medical person at all, but just wondered whether he was experiencing any other symptoms and whether the doctors had offered any further investigations? Things like neck problems can cause chronic headaches. I know there is one type of chronic headache (cluster?) that can be very painful. He may need to be prescribed a different type of painkiller?
Sorry not much help but hope he soon gets some relief.

Sorry posted too early, headaches are caused because jaw muscles spread up and over the skull and cause tension so not actually brain sore heads but it's the muscles. What kind of headache is it? I felt like I had a vice on my head and it was squeezing my skull. Hope your DH gets to the bottom of it.

Thank you for your replies. Am feeling a bit lost right now. I called the doc and pushed them. So we got "telephone triage" which basically meant the gp phoned him. Result. Take some patacetamol and come back in 2 weeks.

It sounds horrible, hope it eases soon.

I have another suggestion. An osteopath. I had lots of headaches caused by something being trapped in my neck and osteopathy fixed it.

susiedaisy · 05/07/2012 19:15

Find a cranial osteopath, they are a godsend. Wouldn't be without mine he works wonders, not cheap though around £35-£40 a go but so worth it.
