Have got spine injuries that are just not recovering. Have wondered about Acupuncture but don't know anything about it and whether there are any benefits to it.

I tried it once for a problem in pregnancy. Couldn't take anything for it so figured acupuncture would do no harm.
Trouble is I suspect you have to believe in this sort of thing for it to work and I don't. It didn't.

Well ...I've had something called dry needling where needles are used but apparently it's not acupuncture .

I had it during treatment for frozen shoulder ,tho the needle bit was to help relax some muscles that were very tight .

I found it very effective .

It worked for me, my GP does it.

What is the injury? Is it to the spinal cord?

I am not sure how acupunture could repair cracks in the spine. What else are the doctors suggesting? Is it a thinning of the bones or an injury?

gingeroots · 06/07/2012 08:53

Not repair the cracks obviously but I guess it might give pain relief ,maybe some other benefits ....relax the muscles ,improve blood supply to area ?

I did get some pain relief from accupuncture. I am a skeptic of such treatments but was prepared to try anything and there was something satisfying about 'getting' the painful area with a long needle. My GP did it. I think mine worked by forcing the muscle to relax.

I have a degenerative thing with my discs and had a course, sadly it did nothing for me. However, I do find a sports massage really helps with the pain. The lady I see is a qualified physio, she warms my back then gives the muscles a good (gentleish) go over. It doesn't help a big lot with underlying pain, but does make a difference for a while to the spasms.
