Dd has knocked the top of her verruca

Do I need to do anything?

It's now a bit of a crater it's possible she has been picking it & quite sore

I put some more bazuka (SP?) on it & a blister plaster for padding - but does she need to see a GP/Nurse?

No, it will be fine. Probably means it is about to die or dead anyway, as they are very resistant to anything when they are strong. A crater is always left when the verrucca falls out when it dies, it will soon smooth over again. (I wouldn't put any more bazuka on it, as it might burn somewhat).

KatyMac · 02/07/2012 22:20

Ooops

Well I'll tell her not to use any more; would it really hurt if it was going?

OP posts:

Well they can hurt, yes, as the skin underneath is very tender and raw. It might be the bazuka stuff causing the pain now. If there is just a hole and no black or red little thready strands then it is all out. Anything black will fall out or can be tweezered out gently. My dd had an absolute monster sized one that spread into 28 at least (uggh) They all died at once and so I've seen all the stages! I would use a little bit of tea tree oil now and nothing else and wait and see if it has all gone. Certainly sounds dead to me.

KatyMac · 03/07/2012 07:10

Thanks

Yes no strandy bits just a lump under the hard skin surface spreading round the side of her toe

Tea-tree is good - I'll put some on & she is wearing a blister plaster to reduce the pressure of her shoe on it

5 new strandy bits turned up today

So I put more stuff on and I'll have a poke after her bath

If the strands are black or dark, they are the old blood supply, and they will just come away or you can pull them out with tweezers. If they are bright red then the beast may still be alive.....

KatyMac · 08/07/2012 17:24

I bought that freezing stuff - will that work?

OP posts:
chipmunksex · 08/07/2012 20:39

freezy stuff worked for dd's horrid little beasties.

Make sure it is verruca you're freezin' though-if you accidently freeze her foot it will hurt like hell!

KatyMac · 08/07/2012 20:55

Hmm - she said it wasn't nice SadBlush - but her granddad did it

I think the top fell off the beast I had as a child a few times..mine left a dent in my shoe, the doctor eventually knifed it off and liquid nitrogened the roots off, twice. The roots were up to my ankle! Shudder. They have a lifespan where they just go away themselves after a few years but if it's affecting her walking or any aspect of her life just get it frozen off. You've both been very brave already, poking at it n all!

KatyMac · 08/07/2012 21:22

Brave? Daft

she is a dancer so it is causing a lot of problems; it arrived just after Easter & it must be gone by September when Grade 6 starts

She is off at a festival this weekend so I am expecting trench foot to come home

Argh at roots up to the ankle Shock I didn't pay any much attention to my eldest's which she had for years but I did mention the banana skin treatment I'd read about on here. And it seems to have worked - it's gone!

KatyMac · 08/07/2012 21:48

"roots to the ankle" gulp

She has hard skin and the verruca seems to be under the hard skin; so I don't think the bazuka was getting to it

I have one of the little buggers on my foot. I've had it frozen twice at the doctors then I did it twice at home. I do file the skin regularly as it can be painful. Fingers crossed it's on it's way out.

AuntPepita · 08/07/2012 21:53

My Mum cut mine out with some nail clippers once.(not joking Shock)

KatyMac · 08/07/2012 21:57

AuntPepita did it work/hurt?

OP posts:
EvenBetter · 08/07/2012 22:03

I know! Sorry, that was gross! It had been there for years and I put the stuff on it, was too squeamish to file it off before reapplying so just hoped it would go away.
The doctor put the nitrogen on an earbud and exclaimed afterwards that it was inside my foot this far (gestured). Now I'll never un-know that.

S1 had so many. Doctor said leave the original one
. Was major mistake as it spread So much. Must have had 50.
Did gaffer tape ,did freeze at home
In the end I got one frozen at doctors. (3 times )
Then they ALL just went. Wish I'd taken photos really as we'd suffered for so long.
Strangely tho, they can't be so infectious as none of us got them

dontcallmehon · 08/07/2012 22:13

I had one for 10 years and then it just went away on its own. Apparently they can be more resistant to treatment in adults though. Might be worth a trip to the docs to get it frozen off.

happy2bhomely · 08/07/2012 22:27

Can I just say that my mum tried using tweezers to pull out the black strands of mine when I was young, and I can tell you it hurt like hell. She also used toenail clippers to try and cut it out. I cried and cried.

It went away on it's own in the end.

KatyMac · 08/07/2012 22:40

Yuk

I guess we should see the GP

OP posts:
AnnaMosity · 08/07/2012 22:49

Happy that sounds terrible.

daenerysstormborn · 08/07/2012 22:57

ds had a huge verruca and knocked the top off it while we were at the beach, it was a right mess, swollen, bleeding and full of sand. our gp was very reluctant to treat it, so it just got left to heal on it's own. it left a large crater, but now, there's no sign it was ever there at all. and best of all, he's never had another one since.
