Hello,

Does anyone know of a health insurer who would cover me for osteopathy for a pre-existing condition (SPD of 2 years duration and counting)?

I really need the treatment but it is costing me a packet.

Thanks in advance

Private health insurance for a 30 something non-smoker costs about £80 a month, maybe more, for a policy that excludes pre-existing conditions, rising as you age.

The only policies which cover pre-existing conditions that I know of are company policies, usually companies that buy many, many policies for employees. Insurance companies are more likely to be flexible for large corporate clients.

For an individual? Not so sure, if the policy exists, I bet it has a huge excess and costs £££.

I know that to get decent pre-existing travel insurance, it is very costly. It is possible, but not cheap.

I think it very unlikely any will cover you and even if they did it'd probably be £££££ and probably just as expensive as paying for the treatment yourself.

Insurance is there as a backup not a treatment plan, I'm a bit Hmm that you think someone else should pay for your treatment tbh.

That's a bit unfair Trixy all insurance whether national or private works on the basis that sometimes you will pay in and never claim, and sometimes you will.

OP it's unlikely. Have you seen your GP as some will fund ostep.

Yes but normally you have paid premiums in before you claim, not take out a policy knowing that you are going to claim.

National insurance is completely different.

Try Benendon

Thanks all.

Trixy, I'm not out to rip anyone off, which is the reason I intend to declare the pre-existing condition. I have heard that some companies are willing to do this (although this is all through friends who have got covered by their partners' companies) and I just want to find out which companies offer it for an individual.

I guess the reason companies are willing to do this is because if the treatment works then the patient might need it anymore, despite having paid a hefty premium.

So although you are taking out a premium knowing you intend to claim, you don't know how long you will be claiming for.
