Should I go to hospital? Would you?

Any medically trained people about?
Have stubbed my little toe on doorframe. It was throbbing/burning. Happened couple of hours ago, swelling has halted now and area under toe has gone nice shade of blue.
Did school run and since then have been on couch with foot on cushions and been putting ice pack on every 20 minutes or so. Was planning to leave it be and keep off feet as much as I can as I know from when I broke little toe on other foot that they simply strap it to next toe and let time do the healing.
Only reason I'm thinking of trip to casualty is foot is getting colder (when Ice pack not on it) and switching between feeling bit pins & needles like to going numb.
Will it be a waste of everyone's time to take myself off to hospital?

What about your GP or a local walk-in centre?

LadySybildeChocolate · 02/07/2012 11:58

No harm in getting it checked. I'd go to A&E, they can use a doppler to check the blood flow. They won't have one of these at your GP or in the walk in centre. I hope all is well.

Thanks, only just dawned on me that keeping it elevated and having no sock on while it's rather cold is probably the source of the numb/pins & needles. Will let it warm up and maybe go A+E when DH gets home.
Was rather hoping for a fair few stay at home it'll be fine posts but should stop being a baby about hospitals and just get it checked I guess Blush

Did a similar thing once tripping over a door step. I thought I'd broken my little toe but it turned out to be a bone in my foot instead. Didn't go to hospital until the next day as I'd convinced myself it was just a toe so nothing to be done. As it happened the break was too close to the toes to be plastered anyway but the crutches helped!
Always best to get checked out...I'm sitting here with 2 broken wrists that I knew were bad as soon as I did it! Good luck Smile

How the hell are you typing with two broken wrists?! Confused

SerenaJoy · 02/07/2012 14:13

I did the same the other day only it was my big toe. It's now a lovely shade of purple and I can't really bend it, although the swelling has gone down. Everyone keeps pestering me to get it looked at but I will feel like an idiot going in with a sore toe, especially a self inflicted one Blush

Will keep an eye on this to see how you got on at A&E OP, and that will maybe encourage me to go too! Hope your little piggy feels better soon Smile

Sorry serena I didn't go, is still painful but I just know they wont do anything and it looks pretty straight now that it's less swollen so I don't think I need to get it looked at. A big toe though? I think that's more in need of attention? You've probably had it checked out by now though

I didn't get mine checked either Blush It's still sore but not so much, and walking is easier. I'm fairly sure I did break it, but I feel like the time has passed for getting it looked at, IYSWIM! However if it doesn't start feeling better soon I will probably end up getting frogmarched to the GP by DH and/or my mother.

Hope yours starts feeling better soon too!
