I have a couple of moles on my face that i have been meaning to get rid of for a while now. My gp says they are Benign but the nhs will not do removal. I am in London so have access to quite a range of private places. Where should i go? What sort of price might it be? What is involved?/is it day surgery under local anesthetic?
TIA

I had one removed from my face last year, the specialist I went to said it was fine and was the type that almost never went malignant but that it would grow bigger over the years. It used to get quite inflamed and very itchy and had been doing this for years so I just decided to get it lopped off.

It was very quick - a bit of local anesthetic, wait 5 mins for that to be working fully, he then cut itbout in about 1 minute! No pain and my face wasn't numb (I thought it would feel like your mouth does when you have local anesthetic at dentist but it didn't). He stitched it up and I was driving home 5 mins later.

Had a follow up appt with nurse to check it was healing ok. Wore small white dressing on face for a couple of days and was advised to wear see through medical tape on it for a few weeks to reduce scarring. Have a faint pink scar, not very noticeable.

I'm not in the UK do can't advise on places. Cost me a bit under £200, this included the mole being sent away for analysis (they do this for all of them, even when dr is sure it is benign). Like I say, not in UK so don't know if that price is comparable to what you would pay there.

Overall, very easy, quick and painless procedure.

I have had 2 removed, both benign but have bothered me more with age and grew during last pregnancy.

For the 1st my GP referred me to NHS dermatologist as she said that although they don't normally remove it was big and worth asking and they removed it there and then.

Second time I just asked for private referral. Looked up dermatologists at local BMI hospital and asked GP if she would recommend one.

Initial consultation was reassuring as she checked my skin head to toe for any signs of skin cancers (none) then had mole removed a week later.

Took 20 mins ish. Cost a few hundred - incl pathology report which you can't avoid as they want to make sure but a bit annoying as I had no concerns that it wasn't benign.

Ask up front about all the costs as you may get lots of separate bills for initial consultation, consultant's time, hospital charges, path report.

One has left flat White mark as scar which I can't cover entirely by make up, but is better than lump before.

The other one - you'd never know it had been there. I think the difference is more size and location than dr skill.

Oh, and local anaesthetic, minimal bleeding when toddler thumped 1 day later, quick to heal.

You need to see a plastic surgeon- ask your GP for names and look into drs at your local ( ish) private hospitals first.

The cost will be around £150 for a consultation then around £500 for the removal of mole.

Don't just pick a clinic off the web especially a " cosmetic" clinic. Look at the surgeon's experience and training. Someone who does boob jobs is not the same as someone who does acial sugery- well, they can be, but check them out!
