Period talk - have yours changed, shorter, lighter and start and stop?

Im 33 and since last year my period has gone from 7 days long (4 days very heavy) and needed to wear double pads at night to very light. Last spring they suddenly went to two days and very light and bright red. I went to gp as also had pain. Last winter I had a laporoscopy and they removed endometriosis which was a big surprise seeing they were light.

Anyway they are still light and short, I am not complaining but wanted to know its normal. I start bang on 29 days, 1st day medium flow, 2nd day light flow, third day spotting, 4th day nothing and then the next two days I will have the odd bleed maybe once in the day. Its always the same with a day of nothing in between - weird!

I have painful ovulation each month and really painful poo when I have my period so not sure if that is the endometriosis again.

Do you think this is just premenopausal?

My partner wants to get the snip and I know in a year or two I would love to persuade him to have just one more child. But I am worried my fertitlity is ending with this change to my period.

I am 39 and I have had similar. My periods have changed more times in th the last 10 years than they did in the 17 or so years before that,

My cycle is changing 26 days seems to be becoming the norm. Mine are heavier but I get the stop start thing and then the odd random really light period.

I was referred to gynae and scanned. They said it was my age and mentioned something like the very early start of the peri-menopause.

thats it - peri-menopausal! knew it didnt read right :)

mmmm... maybe i need to get on the case sooner.

Yes, I would definitely get this checked out. Even if you didn't want another child, you are far too young to be entering menopause .

Please go and talk to your GP, as it sounds like you're going through quite a lot each month!

It may be that the endometriosis you were previously diagnosed with has come back; it can and does recur.

Pain is a major feature with regards to endo and your current symptoms now seem indicative of this as well.

Would ask the GP to refer you back to the gynae asap and in the meantime keep a daily pain and symptom diary.

Mine have become horrific lately, on top of other problems that I've just made a topic about.

realssm · 06/07/2012 22:00

problem is I do not really want to go through a laporoscopy again, i can live with this but just want to know thats all it is. I mentioned it to my gp this week as I was there for my daughter and he did not seem to think it was a problem at all and just said he would get the consultant who saw me about my laporoscopy to contact me and fill me in on what level of endometriosis I had as I have not seen him since the op, two cancelled appointments as we were moving etc. I have started to note when i get pain on my calendar now I had two days of awful pain on my left side two days before i ovulated so must be mid month pain and then today if i get up quick, pain on my right side. So it must all be to do with ovulating. It should settle next week if is.

I have the same thing. Unfortunately I'm going through ivf at the minute after 3 and a half years of TTC. I have also been diagnosed with low amh which is a low ovarian reserve. At 29 this is not good. I've said to the doctor but like you apparently nothing to worry about. It is annoying as they have changed which I think is weird. Used to be 5 days and now 1-2 with only one day of full flow. Sorry not much help. FT

realssm · 07/07/2012 21:54

fodtech, don't worry. It is just good to know I am not alone. Maybe it is normal for our periods to change length, flow etc... Have you had a laporoscopy? I know a few people who tried clomid, ivf etc and many did conceive after ivf, but two who didnt had a laporoscopy and then fell pregnant as they had endometriosis. Its a shame that was not offered to them first. I also find it mad they give clomid out before a laporoscopy too. Good luck and wishing you a pregnancy soon! x

Thanks. Yeah had a laparoscopy and an hsg which all came back clear. Just starting 2nd round of ivf and hopefully get more eggs this time. I do think I could possibly be peri menopausal. Hoping the bloods this time will shed more light on the fact. I suppose it must be normal for periods to change but still weird. FT x
