Yasmin or Cerazette??

I took Yasmin years ago before having children (5 years ago). It was fab, no problems. I started to take it again 6 months ago. As I started it, I was totally knocked for 6 by the flu so much so I was hospitalized. I kept taking it but as I started to feel better the most shocking headaches started and my GP told me to stop taking it.
I was given Lostian 20 and it has been horrible - I have been so depressed I have cried every day for 2 months :( I feel shocking......even thought I would be better of not around :(

GP has suggested Cerazette or trying Yasmin again as maybe the headaches were a result of post viral flu. The trouble is I still feel quite low having stopped the Lostrian 20 last week. I do feel better though.

I have Cerazette in front of me and also Yasmin. WWYD?? I worry that Cerazette will make me depressed and gain weight??

There seems to quite a bit of press about cerazette and struggling to conceive when you come off it. It didn't agree with me as I had periods every fortnight and took 9 months for periods to settle into a routine after coming off when I had been very regular before. If you don't want more kids then this is not an issue. I have never even heard of the other one you mention.

I would recommend starting the Yasmin and if the headaches return switch to the Cerazette.

If you stopped your Loestrin 20 last week you are 'covered' for 7 pill free days and could then go straight on to the Yasmin.

pmgkt Cerazette isn't usually related to problems conceiving after stopping it (unlike the depo-provera injection). It's unlikely that Cerazette would affect your long term fertility as it's an oral POP and so is metabolised within a few days, hence why you need to take precautions if you miss more than 2 pills.

However it can, in some women, cause irregular bleeding but that usually settles down within weeks of stopping it.

I disagree witj rumours about cerezette. Dd 5 months is the result of me being on cerezette

Just thought I would lighten the tone and say I thought this was a baby names thread for a moment...

And my answer would be the same if it were: Yasmin

If headaches return stop immediately and go onto the other one (which would make a terrible baby name)

When looking on the internet large numbers of people who have used cerazette seem to struggle with getting cycles back in a regular fashion hence perhaps seemingly to effect fertility. I only mention it because I found so much online about it when I was researching my irregular cycle. I do know people who have immediately gone back to normal too, but if someone had told me before I started to take it, I wouldn't have risked it knowing I wanted another child.

Cerazette does the opposite for me re weight (keeps it down, magic!). I had no negative side-effects before I came off it to conceive - it stopped my periods which I thought was great and they started regularly as soon as I came off it.

However, now I'm back on it I'm having little periods every couple of weeks, what a pain. No headaches or anything.

AGreenie · 30/06/2012 21:23

I took cerrazette for 3 years - stopped because of irregular and unpredictable bleeding - eg 3 weeks of very light bleeding requiring pad but not tampon - felt very uncomfortable... Stopped taking it and got pregnant very quickly.... (2months) also, felt soooooo much better within myself not taking it - felt happy, though I hadn't realised previously that I wasn't.....

Casmama · 30/06/2012 21:27

I have had positive experiences with cerazette- took it for five years and not a day of bleeding, stopped and pregnant within two months.

princelypurpleparrot · 30/06/2012 21:27

Yup I too thought this was a baby names thread and thought "I'm sure that's the name of a pill"!

Hope you get it sorted OP Smile

My GP said Yasmin had had a bit of bad press but to ignore it??? He did also say to stop it straight away if the headaches carried on, I have had a daily headache since stopping Lostian which he said was because I had stopped taking it. Its all so confusing! I don't even want it for contraception as too tired to have sex, its more to skip periods!

Yasmin is quite a sweet name.....Cerazette is not so sweet!
