3 month old baby prescribed with Flucloxacillin for Excema infection

My 3 months old has been prescribed with flucloxacillin for a cheek infection diagnosed as Staphylococci that progressed from excema. It has gradually spread from her left cheek, left and right ear lobe, slowly to the right cheek, chin and neck. We were first given Erythromycin, this seemed to clear the infection up but it came back a few days later. We got a repeat prescription but the antibiotic was no longer effective. We then tried Fucidin cream but our baby reacted to this making the infection even worse. I'd like to ask the advise for two things: Firstly, as this will be our 3rd course of antibiotics, will this effect baby? And secondly, the directions for use say to give the medication every 6 hours on an empty stomach and at least one hour before her feed, but she is sleeping 12 hours through the night, up for one feed. I don't want to wake her, do you think every 4 hours is OK?

Perhaps you should ask the pharmacist or telephone the surgery to confirm the timing

the antibiotics will have been prescribed as necessary in this case to deal with the infection, so while antibiotics shouldn't be taken unnecessarily sometimes they are needed

hope baby is better soon

Hi BabySophia
How Sad and stressful for you both. Agree with Zippi - do phone and get some clearer advice about timings.
Also, if it's any help, my ds2 had to have a shedload of antibiotics at 8 weeks (he nearly died of horrible infection) and he's now 6 and as fit as a fiddle. Only thing I remember at the time was that, once he'd recovered, he got quite constipated and his tummy was obviously hurting him. Not sure now if that was related to the antibiotics but GP suspected it was at the time. Didn't last long, though.
Good luck - hope the infection clears up soon
