I have recently tried castor oil and it didn't work. The only thing that it did do was cause adominal pain and lots of diarrhea. I also have been told that since I tried castor oil and it didn't work that she can have a bowel movement inside me and die. Is this true? I am scared that I might have just killed my little girl.

Who told you that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!what an insensitive thing to say. I dont know the answer to your question, but I know it was a method used alot 20 odd yrs ago, but it is not reccommended now, call NHS to put your mind at rest.

Is your baby moving? How many weeks are you?

Castor oil not recommended because it can cause an upset stomach, but never heard that about baby bowel movement.

Don't fret - and call NHS Direct if you're really worried (0845 4647)

HappyMumof2 · 28/02/2006 07:39

I was told this by my midwife when I was having dd. Apparently the incidence of babies getting distressed and passing meconiciam (sp?) and then needed special care is higher with mothers who have taken castor oil.

Are you still getting movements? How many weeks are you and how much did you take?

I'm sure your baby is fine, I just wouldn't take any more, let nature take it's course, she'll come out when she's ready!

i took castor oil on the day i was due. started having contractions 2 hours later....
my dd was perfectly fine, didnt pass meconium or anything. she weighed a healthy 7lb 3!!
my mate also took it to kick start her labour too, and that was on the advice of a midwife!

Squarer · 28/02/2006 11:59

Try ringing your midwife Britt05 and tell her. She'll probably pop round and have a listen and put your mind at rest! Worst thing in the world is to worry Smile

HappyMumof2 · 28/02/2006 12:00

you might be in labour by now!!

Squarer · 28/02/2006 12:02

I am now 39wks pregnant and my due date is on March 10th. She moves fine everday and I took it last thursday and it didn't work. The people on the yahoo chat room told me that it will kill the baby but I went on the medical websites and nothing of that nature stated that. I talked to my mother and sil last night and they calmed me down. I go to the doctor tomorrow so I will let them know what I did and see if they can do a test to see if she has done a bowel movement inside me. Thanks for the support.

If she's moving fine, I'm sure she's OK, but for do get checked for your peace of mind.

What ignorant people on Yahoo.

It's not that I decided to do it at 38wks. When I took the castor oil I was 37wks prego. I got the idea of castor oil by my sil and she said it worked on her. I just really want to get labor over with and see her for the first time. I just kinda impatient. But I will never do castor oil ever again. It didn't work and I don't want to indanger her.

Stick to curries and pineapple next time Britt05. They don't work either, but at least you get someting nice to eat Wink Grin

Let us know how you get on at the docs Smile
