Confused - has the DTP had flu and polio added or am I going bonkers?

StarlightWithAsteroid · 28/06/2012 13:57

And is there a way round the additions if I am right?

Monovalent diphtheria vaccine, or a combined diphtheria/tetanus vaccine are not available in the UK.

Revaxis is a vaccine containing diphtheria, tetanus and inactivated polio but is indicated for the over 10s as it doesn't contain enough diphtheria to protect under 10s.

Grammar, my parallel universe is not in my mind. It's in the public mind. I'm going through my second tribunal shortly as a result of these lies and intentional harm.

I also know that vaccines are NOT safe. But that often the risks are worth the benefits.

However, this occurs at a population level and not an individual level.

I'm truly sorry to hear about your tribunal. I really hope the outcome is what you are hoping.

StarlightWithAsteroid · 29/06/2012 19:36

Thank you grammar, it looks like we are actually going to settle shortly with this one so hopefully it will be okay for a bit, although doubt very much it will be our last.

I want to vaccinate. But I want to vaccinate safely. If vaccines were safe for all, there would be no compensation programme and no published side effects. I think it is reasonable and responsible to look into these things. As mentioned before I have experience of having to challenge lies by so called professionals, as well as ignorance.

I don't think that majority of people in health professions intend harm for my children, but nor do I trust them implicitly to always do what is right for whatever training, political, arse-covering, financial incentivised, resource driven rationale.

I'll ignore the anti-vaccine rant!

When my eldest 2? had their vaccinations they had MMR, and separate vaccination for the others, actually I'm pretty sure my DS was part of a catch up for Hib. So do you remember your kids having more than one injection at a time? (Oh and the sugar cube.)

CaptainVonTrapp · 01/07/2012 22:39

Starlight, dip/tetanus vaccine is available in the UK - as long as you can pay for it...

bumbleymummy · 02/07/2012 07:40

Captain, I think it's only suitable for older children.

silverfrog · 02/07/2012 08:08

Starlight, as ever, I would recommend Richard Halvorsen's book (you've probably read it, as I think I mentioned it to you when you had dd)

there is quite a lot of info re: the vaccine schedule, and the risk/benefits etc.

as you know, I know exactly what you mean wrt the parallel universe, and getting decent info on any of this can be very difficult.

I will be facing this again too, over the summer (so far our decision will be as for dd2, but then we are coming form a slightly different angle from you, as you know, with a lot of gut issues in the family, and in dd1 and dd2).

there are few options other than the recommended ones for babies. some are available for older children, but this does railroad parents of newborns into "our way or no vaccines at all" which is not helpful.

We will be visiting Halvorsen for a consultation after dc3 arrives - to get an opinion o n what to do with dd2, as well as up to date info on his thoughts re: dc3.

bumbleymummy · 02/07/2012 12:45

I didn't realise you were expecting again silverfrog. Congratulations! :)

silverfrog · 02/07/2012 12:50

thanks, bumbley - 3 weeks to go Shock Grin

better get somewhere for dc3 to sleep sorted out pronto...

StarlightWithAsteroid · 02/07/2012 12:55

somewhere to do some basic cooking would be a bonus too - kitchen still an environmental disaster zone (although new fridge now, and dishwasher, so can store food and clean up afterwards, just not cook it Confused)

StarlightWithAsteroid · 02/07/2012 19:38

Lol! Hope you get it sorted soon. You're inspirational and possibly a bit bonkers but I know why - of course!

congrats, Silverfrog :)

CaptainVonTrapp · 02/07/2012 20:45

Definitely suitable for young children too bumbley. Looks like they also have it here www.babyjabs.co.uk/baby_vaccines.htm

bumbleymummy · 03/07/2012 09:07

Good to know Captain. Thanks. :)

brighthair · 04/07/2012 01:59

I had a top up tetanus, and they told me it comes with diphtheria and polio in it now as well. I just wanted the tetanus one but apparently I can't just have that

LaVolcan · 12/07/2012 11:53

50-60 years ago we were still seeing our children die if Diptheria.

No, more like 70-80 years ago before WW2, not in the 1950s and 60s. Whether its reduction was due to vaccination and/or a better standard of living including better nutrition is a moot point.

LaVolcan · 12/07/2012 12:01

I had a top up tetanus and also ended up with the diphtheria vaccine, which I didn't particularly want. It didn't have polio in but all this was seven years ago. I was told that I didn't need more polio vaccine - I had already received sufficient.

I have also been told that I don't now need more tetanus boosters so it's a bit academic in my case, but it just goes to show that advice changes, making it hard to know what to believe.
