Ds hit his head today.............................

Ds who's 20months, is at the age where he's obviously gonna have knocks and tumbles etc... but today he whacked his head really hard on the corner of a wall socket. He was on dp's lap and wriggled to get down onto the floor and slipped on the arm of the chair.

A lump about the size of a marble came up really quickly and there's a bit of a bruise there too.

I put his 'Mr Bump' cool pack on it and gave him some calbrofen.....

It was so scary, I seem to worry about everything really bad when he has a bump or is ill. Is everyone like that????????? Reassurance???? :)

Anyway, I remember my friend saying her girl hit her head on their wooden floor and a lump came up really quickly like an egg, and she rushed her to the docs crying and she was fine:)

Just wondered, if anyone's child had hit their head and they've been to docs or a&e, what do they tell you to look for?

He seems fine now and didn't cry for long really but I'm still worried!
Thanks

Laura x

Wrong time of the day but you want to watch to see if they are sleepy, less 'with it'.

Also if they are sick or say they feel nauseas can be another good indicator.

HTH!

I am an old hand at this. When ds2 was around your son's age he split his head open twice bad enough to require gluing together in A&E (and also broke his leg but that is another matter). ALso, he bumped his head loads of times and it came up like a huge marble. Some children do get these huge lumps you know and others don't (my other three children don't).

The things to look out for in the next 24-48 hours are drowsiness and vomiting.

But I suspect he will be fine! Smile

Thanks, it happened at lunchtime today and he just seemed a bit quiet now and then afterwards (is that normal) (trying to think what I'd feel like if I hit my head?!) but I wouldn't say drowsy I don't think...........

He did have a little nap in the car for about 20mins this afternoon but usually does that anyway.

and see if she follows your finger in front of her so her eyesight is not affected... and keep an eye on her tonight too

sorry - He

This probably sounds really stupid Blush, but how do you mean keep an eye on him tonight? Should I wake him up every now and then? He always sleeps for 13hrs solid... :)
