DS1 is 14 and sems to have hay fever. His eyes are red and sore and runny and he's sneezing alot. It has happened occasionally in the apst, but seems worse this week, he says they have twice ahd PE outside in the playgfields. So I am wondering if it is the cut grass, but DH wondered if it's an allergy to soemthing?

I am currently giving him Boots own hayfever stuff containing loratadine (sp). But it doesn't seem to be helping.
Can anyone suggest/recommend something else, and also if anyone can suggest eye drops or something which help his eyes it would be appreciated.
neither DH or I, or anyone else in the family suffer with it

My hayfever is terrible this week too.

I find piriton (not piriteze) good, it might be a bit psychological because you can take 4 tablets a day and I feel like I get relief from each one...whereas the one a day tablets seem to wear off too quickly for me.

I also get eye drops. Do NOT buy the cheapy Asda ones (that dh bought me). I think it's Optrex that do some good ones.

The thing that helps me most (won't be much good for your DS at school though) is one of these

Other things that help are frequent showers and wearing sunglasses.

Mine is horrendous this week too.

As he is under 16 I would get him to docs for a prescription. I am usually prescribed eyedrops, a nose spray, and tablets. The tablets are shit and I need to go back for some stronger ones. I also have an asthma pump as I start wheezing and struggling to breathe (only during hayfever season).

I like liquid piriton for effectiveness but it makes me very drowsy.

I second sunglasses. Felt like a right twat in the cloudy playground with my pollen shields sunglasses on but my eyes are red raw so any extra barrier is good.

If I've been out for a while I change clothes, and shower if I have time.

My DS1 is also 15 and has been sent home 4 times in the last week and a half from school as he has been so bad. Went to docs and he was prescribed same as bored. Don't bother buying over the counter, prescription items have worked much better, and don't cost anything!

He has:-
Brown and Blue inhaler
Nose spray
Tablets (seem very strong and work really well)
eye drops.

If they work (which they have), dr will put them on repeat prescription for him.

You will need to get a handle on this now. I presume he is in year 9? Things step up a gear next year with exams. My DS struggled through them with his hayfever. We will know to get on top of the problem earlier next year, long before his exams start.

Ok thanks everyone. I did think aobut the docs, manily because I don't know much about hayfever. I shall get him an appointment and see what they can give him.
