Has anyone had a hysteroscopy?

I've been waiting 3 months now for a hysteroscopy and have just received an appointment for tomorrow as they have had a cancellation.

I am dreading this as I really do not know what to expect, all I know is that a camera is being put into my cervix.

Has anyone else had this done and is it painful etc?

I had it done along with a laparopscy (sp?) under general anaethestic. Are you having a genral do you know?

No pain afterwards, just slight bleeding and feeling a bit uncomfortable but that was probably more from the lap & dye as I had stitches from that.

Good Luck! Smile I had no notice of mine either, got a cancellation for following day too!

I've had a lap and dye where a small camera was inserted near my belly button into my uterus etc to check that all was OK. Had small incision near belly button and one at top of bikini line. Is this a hysteroscopy similar - keyhole surgery? If so, I was generally OK after a few days of bed rest. Not too sore from what I can remember (it was three (yikes!) years ago - seems like yesterday)

hysteroscopy is via the cervix, no incision

I've been told i won't be having any anaesthetic at all.

I've had one, not pleasant but not painful, don't worry.

butternut squash, is it just like a smear, as i get nervy, would it be useful taking a diazapam before?

Had it done about two weeks ago, was down under ga as was meant to get coil as well. Didn't get coil, but that's different story. Expect some discomfort after, and you will bleed, you are also not allowed to used tampons for 6 weeks after. HTH

Thanks dg, they tried to get me to have the coil fitted too but I am totally against it.

Any reason why? it seems to stop the really heavy periods

Radley · 27/02/2006 14:58

It's not the bleeding, i can sort of cope with that, its the pain, migraines, nausea etc. I am on 21+ painkillers a day and often have ALOT of pain during the month.

I am getting really worried now as I have looked on a few sites and all have said that a local or general anaesthetic is given.

That sounds bad, can you give them a phone and make sure you are not having any anthestic? as you will not be allowed to drive home.

Going to get ds1 from school, but I will be thinking of you tomorrow

Radley · 27/02/2006 15:02

Thanks, i don;t drive so it will be taxis, i may ring them to put my mind at rest.

i had it done with no painkillers or anaethesia and it was fine - a little period ish type feeling but no more

It was 4 years ago and had some students in the room conducting a study on wether pain relief should be taken before the procedure.

I advised 'yes' as it was not pain free but fine and a reassuring procedure- good luck!
