Tonsillitis with coffee ground vomit?

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help? I've had tonsillitis the last couple of days(got some penicillin V from the GP). My throat is very sore and there is quite a lot of white. This morning I started feeling sick and when I vomited it was brown and looked exactly like the pictures of coffee ground vomit on google so I assume there must be blood in it. I think I also saw some fresh blood as it was erm coming up and it tasted metallicy. Is this a known complication of tonsillitis? just the tonsils bleeding a bit and me swallowing it? Or should I go back to the GP? In the interest of completion I did have 2 doses of ibuprofen yesterday on an empty stomach because paracetamol wasn't touching the pain (completely stupid I know),

Thank you in advance!

Not sure if it's a 'known complication', but I've had tonsillitis many many times in my life and have never vomited blood from it! I'd go back to the GP.

thank you, I will give them a call when they open!

Definitely go back. You should never take ibuprofen on an empty stomach as it can cause the stomach lining to bleed.

Alternatively, if the bleeding is coming from your tonsils, that is not good either.

Icelollies will reduce the swelling. Chilled yogurt, jelly and any other cold, semi solid food is much easier to swallow than liquids.

Gargling frequently with an antibacterial, antifungal mouthwash such as oraldene is very soothing, and gets rid of any food lodged in the tonsils that make the pain and infection worse.

Some germs are resistant to penicillin V, so your GP should take a swab. (It never touched my tonsillitis, whereas 48 hours of azithromycin cleared it up in no time).

Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you 3littlefrogs. I know I was stupid about the ibuprofen, not going to make that mistake again! I will get some icelollies and mouthwash on my way back from the GP later.

I had two bouts of tonsillitis last year, you have my utmost sympathy it is vile and not just 'a really sore throat' as some people seem to think!
I've never vomited blood with it, definitely one to see the GP about.
Let us know what he/she says. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

I have vomited blood with tonsillitis. It was the worse case I have ever had and I ended up in hospital with it.

I initially went to GP who said it was normal for them to bleed Confused. I then battled on for a couple of day with the antibiotics she gave me. It only got worse.

My tonsils were bleeding and I was swallowing the blood which is why I then vomited it up, clots and all (sorry TMI). A&E called out the ENT on call Dr at 2am in the morning to see me, so don't worry about kicking up a fuss about this.

My tonsils are very scarred due to having it so often and this led to them cracking and bleeding.

You need to go to the GP. If the GP takes no notice (like mine) then you need to get yourself to A&E. They successfully treated me with intravenous antibiotics and gargling with something that I completely forget now!

They also told me that I needed to eat things like crisps - 'rough food' which dislodges any how can I put it 'gunk' that builds up in your tonsils.

You must be feeling really, really rough and I hope you feel better soon.
